Word was received here last week of the death of Mrs. Donald Crome. of Canton. Illinois. They were former residents of North Liberty and have relatives in North Liberty and Walkerton. Mrs. Warner Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shields and family and his mother. Mrs. Pauline Shields, came back Sunday from Lake Placid. Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Clark had gone to Florida two weeks before and the Shields group joined them for a week's stay and Mrs. Gark returned home with them. Miss Vickie Capek and Mr. Todd Bryerl, of Purdue, spent Saturday and Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Capek, Jr. Mr. and Mrs. John Solrnos were in Indianapolis and Carmel, Indiana over the week end visiting their two sons and families, Mr. and Mrs. Larry McDaniel and Mr. and Mrs. David Solrnos. On Tuesday afternoon last week Miss Ethel Bierly entertained the members of the Naomi Circle of the Women's Society of the United Methodist Church and on Friday she entertained the members of the Fellowship Sunday School Gass in her home. Miss Tammie Stull spent the school holidays last week in Terre Haute with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Holsinger. Week end guests of Mrs. Mickie Hunt were Mr. and Mrs. John Pearson and daughter, Sarah, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pearson and son Robert, all of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Herman Henry came back from Florida Sunday after a three week vacation for Mr. Henry. Mrs. Henry had been in Florida for some time prior working on their new home they purchased last fall at Traveras, Florida. Henry. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hesters and family took a week vacation and two days of it was spent in New Britian. Caonnecticut, visiting a family that had been with them for two months over the Christmas holidays two years ago. This was a refugee family from Laos. A family of five, they are adjusting very rapidly and enjoying the American way of life. Mr. and Mrs. Hesters have some pictures of their trip and also have several articles from their former homeland, which they are very happy to show toothers. Mrs. Douglas Baker was the hostess for a bridal shower given Sunday afternoon in the Community Building in Walkerton. The bride-to-be is Miss Tami Baker, of Bremen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Baker. There were 20 present from Bremen, South Bend, North Liberty, LaPorte and Walkerton. Miss Elizabeth Fenstermacher served as a page in the house of representatives last Friday. Her sponsore was Kermit Burrous, Speaker of the House. Last Sunday morning Nathan Fenstermacher, son of Rev. and Mrs. Mark Renstermacher, of Elkhart, was baptised in the Trinity United Methodist Church. Those attending the service from here wre Mr. and Mrs. Ray Chapman and Linda, and Mr. Dennis Holland, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Fenstermacher and family, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Owen, of Indianapolis, and Mr. Dan Owen, from Guatemala City, Central America. On Sunday evening Rev. Mark Fenstermacher was the guest speaker in Walkerton United Methodist Church Lenton service. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Owen and Mr. Dan Owen were guests in the Fenstermacher home from Friday until Monday. Last Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Beaty showed their slides of Alaska to the LaPorte County Farm Bureau members at Kingsford Heights. Mr. Roscoe C. Provence is in the Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox. Room 219-B. Visitors would be welcomed.

Monday Mrs. Nellie Smith, Mrs. Mary Bauer and Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Beaty attended the business meeting of the Haven Helpers at Hamilton Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Anderson, of Koontz Lake, have returned from spending the winter months in Lakeland, Florida. Week end guests of the Clarence Wilson, of Koontz Lake, were their daughters. Joyce and her husband, Dan Rajski, and daughters Julie and Jacqulinc and her husband, Bill Jordan and their children, Kimberly and Billy. They all hosted a beautiful dinner party on Saturday evening at the Hayloft Restaurant, Plymouth. The occasion was in honor of Mrs. Wilson's (Ruth) 75th birthday. Numerous congratulations, best wishes and gifts were received during the week from relatives and friends near and far. JOHNSON TOWNSHIP CLUB MEETS On March 21, approximately 50 members and guests attended the Johnson Township Gub carry-in ham dinner at the Community Building. Mrs. Elbert Place gave an Irish prayer. The tables were festive with St. Patrick’s Day decorations. Mrs. Harry Malstaff, president, presided at the business session. Martha Mull read a poem, “The Golden Links of Friendship.’’ Guests were introduced as the members answered roll call. The Spring Jubilee date was announced as May 1. Those wishing to attend must have money for tickets to the president by the next club meeting, April 18. Mrs. Malstaff appointed a nominating committee: Mrs. Elbert Place, Mrs. Alma Daube and Mrs. Esther Kaufman. Plans were made to clean the community building on April sat 9:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to help will be welcome. The birthday song was sung for Mrs. John Dreessen and Mrs. Daube. A white elephant sale was held with Martha Mull, auctioneer, making a lot of fun and profit for the club treasury. RAINBOW GIRLS TO CANVASS TOWN The Walkerton Rainbow Assembly No. 64 will be canvassing the Town of Walkerton the next couple of weeks for Muscular Dystrophy and the annual Cancer Drive. Please donate generously knowing that each amount given helps in the research for cures of these diseases. National Library Week Proclaimed By Gov. Bowen The Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library just received word from Governor Bowen that he has proclaimed April 1-7 as National Library Week. To acknowledge Library Week all library books that are overdue, except rentals, can be returned free of dues here in Walkerton. So now is the time to get those way overdue books back and clear the records. Come in and see what we have. Spring is coming and we have numerour books on remodeling and repairing. TO CELEBRATE 40th ANNIVERSARY Si Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knowlton, Rural Route 3, Walkerton, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 8, at the Johnson Township Community Building. No invitations have been issued and is open to all friends and relatives. Harold and Pauline Kelver were married on April 9, 1939, in Walkerton. They have five children, Gerald Knowlton. North Liberty; Mrs. Carl (Kathy) Delaney, Lafayette; David Knowlton, Mrs. David (Sharon) Drews and Gene Knowlton, all of Walkerton; and 13 grandchildren. No gifts are requested.
