Ihe 39th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Rosenkranz, ot LaCrosse, was celebrated last Saturdax with a delicious dinner served b\ Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pogod/inski in their home. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clouse and daughter. Kimberly, of LaCrosse; Mr and Mrs. Jim Reisner and family, of Knox; and Mrs. Beulah I ych. of LaPorte. The following named persons attended the church group conference of the Calumet and South Bend districts of the United Methodist Church held at the First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso Februarx 23 and 24. Mrs. Eileen Clark. Mrs. Mildred Smith. Mrs. Rax C hapman. Rex. and Mrs. William Hughes. David Fenstermacher and Mr. Robert Keck. The conference was led by Dr. W'in Arn. Director of Church Growth Institute. Pasedena. California. There were 459 registered attendants. On Sunday afternoon 32 people from the United Methodist Church went to South Bend to attend the South Bend District rally for layiety of the church. Mr. Ray Chapman is the District Lay Leader. This meeting stressed the use of the hvmnal and meaning of the hymns. Song leader was Bill Mann of the First United Methodist Church in

Dallas. Texas. After the meeting the group went to Bishop's Cafeteria for a lunch. Mr and Mrs. Gene Gerber entertained at a birthday dinner Saturday evening for their son-in-law. Bryon Gerhart. Those attending were Mrs. Bryon Gerhart and laden, ( harley and Robert Gerber and Miss Vicki Wallace. On Wednesday of last week Tom and Jeff Whitmer, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Dwain Whitmer, of North Liberty, and Christi and Joni Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Davis, of North Liberty, served as pages for State Representative Richard Mangus, at the state legislature session in Indianapolis. They also visited with Governor Bowen for a few minutes. Mr. and Mrs. W'hitmer accompanied the pages and enjoyed the day very much with more of an understanding of how our government works. Mrs. John Schamer came home Wednesday of last xveek from a five week stay in Lake Worth. Florida, as a guest of Mrs. Ellen Brede. While there they visited many people and went to several places of interest. Mrs. Michael Corbett is a surgical patient in LaPorte Hospital. Her mother. Mrs. Herbert Holsinger, of Terre Haute, is here to take care of

the duties in the home during Mrs. Corbett's stay in the hospital. A group of women from the Women's Fellowship group of the Church of the Brethren, from North Liberty, gathered at the home of Mrs. Stanley Betz in Walkerton for an all day meeting. A good dinner was enjoyed at the noon hour and the afternoon was spent knotting comfort tops. Mrs. Florence Wiese. Mrs. Ethel Hillegas and Mrs. Helen Bricker, of South Bend; and Mrs. Ruth Bare, of North Liberty; spent last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Everett Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Baker, of Bremen, were callers in the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Elder were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, of Burns Harbor, Sunday. Mrs. Elder and Mrs. Johnson were schoolmates when they lived in Hammond. Mrs. William Michalski, of Koontz Lake, returned home Saturday after a three-month stay in Baton Rouge. La., with her two sons and their families, Mr. and Mrs. George Michalski, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Michalski. While there she attended the xvedding of her grandson, Steven, it was a cold winter in Bagon Rouge, but no snow, Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fouts were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Geyer at Edxvardsburg, Michigan. The Johnson Township Home Economics club held their regular scheduled meeting Wednesday in the home of Mrs. Floyd Diperl, withg 16 members present and one guest. Mrs. Huston, of South Bend. Mrs. Floyd Dipert. Mrs. James Keeling anti Mrs. Bess Hopper were the hostesses and lovely refreshments were served. Mrs. John Northam spent Sunday afternoon visiting Mrs. J. C. Milner of the 76 Apartments. Mr. and Mrs. John Wathen have returned home after enjoying a two week vacation in Florida, visiting with friends and relatives at several different places. Mr. and Mrs. John Pearson and daughter. Sarah, of Beaver Dam. Wisconsin, were here from Thursday until Sunday visiting Mrs. A. G. Hunt. On Saturday Mrs. Hunt’s sister. Mrs. Irene Jones, of LaPorte. came to spend Saturday and Sunday with the group. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Elder, and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pogodzinski went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Burnside last Wednesday and besides enjoying a good dinner they knotted comforts, believe it or not, both men and women worked on the comfort. Mrs. Jessie Garcia will serve as the hostess for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club dinner Saturday evening in the club house. UREY TEAMS SPUT WITH LA PORTE BOSTON The Urey seventh grade boys team was defeated by LaPorte Boston 35-33. Dan Huffstatter and Barry Bottorff led Urey with eight points apiece with Huffstatter shooting four of six from the field. Scott Pontius and Todd Cummins had six points each with Pontius shooting three of six from the field and grabbing nine rebounds. Cummins led Urey in rebounding with 11. The seventh grade record is 3-3. The Urey eighth grade defeated Boston 43-42. Zane Hathaway led Urey with 17 points. Hathaway shot four of seven from the field, nine of 11 from the free throw line and had two steals. Mark Jacobson had seven points shooting three of six from the field. Urey shot 27 free throws and hit 17. The eighth grade record is 4-3. UREY GIRLS LOSE CLOSE GAME IN TOURNEY The Urey eighth grade girls lost a close game to La Ville at the Plymouth tourney Saturday, February 24. Urey scored three quick baskets in the final minutes, but missed a shot with several seconds left to lose 20-18.

Popieralski led the Lancers with eight and Prcntkowski addeil six. Traci Lowry and Beth Erickson had four each for the Pantherettes. In the consolation game, Plymouth t(H)k care of Urey 33-8. Wojcik and Hassle had six each for the Pilgrimettes. Beth Erickson had four for Urey. Bremen beat Plymouth in the first game 31 -9, and went on to win the tourney defeating La Ville 4110. Urey's seventh grade lost a thriller to Argos Mondax night. 23-22 in overtime. Taylor scored 19 of the 23 points for Argos. Debbie Vanc/a and Angie Zekucia had eight apiece for Urey. Ihe eighth grade Panterettes lost 35-15. Janell Prochno led the Dragonettes with 15 and Marilyn Daugherty added eight. Shelley Mann had six for Urey and Denise 1 inkey added four.
