Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Knowlton, of North Liberty, entertained Sunday with a birthday dinner honoring their twin daughters. Joni and Julie’s 12th birthdays. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Harold Knowlton. Mr. and Mrs. David Knowlton and family, Mr. and Mrs. David Drews and sons and Mr. Gene Knowlton and sons. Two other birthdays were celebrated also, those being Mrs. David Drews and Danny Knowlton. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marion Anderson were Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Beagles. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Beagles and family. Mrs. Roger Hellinga and children, of Middlebury, and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Douthett, of Three Oaks. Michigan. The dinner was given to honor the birthday of Mrs. Norman Beagles. Mr. and Mrs. John Solmos came home Thursday noon from a three week stay in Florida. They stayed in Orlando most of the three weeks and visited Mr. and Mrs. Dee Wolfe, in Kissimmie. Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfe arc former North I ibcrty residents. Monday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Elder were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Pogodzinski. Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Burnside and Mrs. Dorothy Walsh. Next Saturday night hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club will be Mr. and Mrs. Moravek. A good place for members and their guests to spend Saturday evening. Saturday morning Mrs. George Meyers was given a surprise by some of her neighbors. What she thought was going to be a shopping spree was a birthday surprise. She was taken to the Plymouth Holiday Inn for her birthday dinner and the ladies had a birthday cake baked and decorated for the occasion and the shopping came later. Her hosts were Mrs. Harry Smith, Mrs. Selma Pry and Mrs. Arthur Oneika A very pleasant day and a big surprise for Mrs. Mevcrs. Sunday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Betz and son were Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Betz and Janice, of Walkerton; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Betz and family, of North Liberty, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Betz, of South Bend. Later in the evening Miss Linda Betz and Miss Linda Broun, of South Bend, and Miss Phyllis Walk, of LaPorte, came for cake and ice cream, as this was honoring Mrs. Stanley Betz’s birthday. Mrs. Helen Smith moved from her home on a Walkerton route to Karl King River Bend Tower, last Saturday. Her address will be 515 E. Monroe Apt. 908. South Bend. She will be happy to have anyone from Walkerton drop in to see her. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Johnson spent a few days in Corpus Christi. Texas, last week. The following out-of-town people were here last Thursday for the funeral service of Mr. Albert Huhnke, Sr.. Mr. and Mrs. Kendall Wilson and son Randy; Mr. Leslie Huhnke, of Campbell, California; and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Nusbaum. of Boise, Idaho. Leslie Huhnke left for home on Saturday after spending a feu days with relatives. Mrs. Morris Maistaff of Union Mills spent Tuesday of last week with her sister, Miss Ethel Bierly. In the afternoon they visited Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Whitaker and Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Stull spent the week end in Terre Haute to visit Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Holsinger and Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Holsinger and daughter. While there they went to see the Indiana State Basketball game with Creighton University. The birthdays of Mrs. Clell Fouts and her grandson. Don McCan, of
Plymouth, were celebrated Sunday with a dinner given by Don’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Roger McCan. of Plymouth. Other guests were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kelly and family, of LaPaz. Mrs. Welcome Koontz and Miss Trena Stockman, of Bourbon. Mrs. Fouts birthday and her grandson's are on the same day. Serve As Pages In House Os Representatives Miss Robin Mowrey. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Mowrey. and Miss Donna Klopfenstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Klopfenstein. both of Walkerton, served as pages last week in the Indiana House of Representatives for State Representative Richard W. Mangus (R-Lakeville). Each page served for one day taking messages to and from Representatives and getting a first hand lixik at state government in action. LOCAL RESIDENT ON BETHEL DEAN’S LIST Seventy-six students at Bethel College earned at least 3.5 grade point averages during the fall trimester of the 1978-79 school year to qualify for the Dean's List, according to Dr. Wayne J. Gerber, academic dean. Each student must be carry ing at least 12 semester hours. Sixteen of the 76 students earned perfect 4.0 grade point averages. Among the 16 with perfect grades was Randall Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Allen, of Route 3. Box 690. Walkerton. Allen is a senior majoring in Business Administration. Also included on the Dean's List was Miss Kerri Gardner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Gardner, of Rural Route 4. Box 112, Walkerton. Miss Gardner is a freshman. majonng in Physical Education. NOTICE OF MEETING The Oregon Township Senior Citizens. Koontz Lake, will meet on Thursday. February 15. at the Koontz Lake Conservation Club, at 12:30 p m.. C.S.T. All members are to bring a covered dish for the luncheon. HOMEMAKERS TO MEET The Oregon Township Homemakers Club will meet on Tuesday. SOCIAL SERVICE MEETING THIS FRIDAY MORNING The Walkerton Woman’s Community Club will hold a social service meeting on Friday, February 2, at 10:00 a m. in the Community Building. Members are asked to bring a needle, white thread and scissors as well as a sack lunch. Marge Curl is in charge of the project. Dessert will be served by the hostesses. SHAMROCK WRESTLERS SECOND IN NSC MEET The Shamrock matmen finsihed second in the conference tourney Saturday at Fairfield. With this finish the conference ended up in a three-way tie among North Liberty, LaVille (the Saturday winner) and New Prairie. Lonnie Shetler was North Liberty's only champion. Byron Shetler. Dave Wunder and Mark Romwalter finished second. Grapplers who took third place honors were Lennie Stanfield, Jim Kalafat, Steve Hayes. Tim Vanderheyden and Ed Swoverland. Wrestlers placing fourth were Mark Swoverland, Mike Spillman and Kirk Maravolo. The last home match is this Tuesday against the Bremen Lions at 6:30. The wrestlers travel to LaPorte Saturday for the sectional tourney. Come and back your wrestling team. GLENN HAS ONE CONFERENCE CHAMP IN WRESTLING Mike Shenenberger. wrestling in the 155 pound class, won his division at the Northern State Conference meet on Saturday at Fairfield. This was Glenn's only championship and they finished sixth in the seven team meet. A second place finish was gained by John Fry in the 119 pound class. LA VILLE CAPTURES NSC MEET SATURDAY The LaVille wrestling team put four individual titles together with their other finishes to capture a tight Northern State Conference meet Saturday at Fairfield. The Lancers totaled 143*/i points to runner-up North Liberty's 129'/i. New Prairie was next with 122, Fairfield had 85, Culver 71, John Glenn 59 and Jimtown 56.
