However, falling behind by ■six in this period from a halftime deficit of only one. was crucial and the Argos reserves went on to win the game 41-36. These were the same two teams that battled it out last year when North Liberty came home with the title. The Shamrocks started well getting the game’s first two baskets as Scott Pinkowski and Dave Dudzinski accounted for these points. A lay-in by Terry Davis opened the scoring for Argos, but the Shamrocks continued to control play for a little while as Rick Stefaniak hit one of two free throws and after another lay-in. this one by Bob Daugherty. Dan Stevens connected on two free throws for a 7-4 lead. However, the Shamrocks weren't to score again this quarter and Steve Davis collected six points for the Dragons to make it Argos 10. North Liberty 7 after one period. The Shamrocks drew first blood in the second quarter and once again started a period fast. A tip-in off a missed shot following the opening tip by Jeff Donathen pulled them to within one and just seconds later Dudzinski was fouled and hit the first of two shots to tie the score at 10. John Brandt pushed the Shamrocks ahead for a short w hile as the game was back and forth as he hit two foul shots as half of the Shamrocks points at this point were from the foul hne. A lay-in by Scott Friar tied the score as Argos finally started beating the press that North Liberty was applying on defense and they began to create two on one situations when they got the ball in the forecourt Steve Davis then connected with two more tree throws, but Steve Snyder tied it again with a seven loot turn around shot A free throw in two attempts bv Friar was followed bv a long leftbaseline bomb by Brandt but the Dragons came right back with a basket by Scott Jennings as he again beat the press and pulled up tor a nine footer in the lane Snyder answered with a lay-m at the I ls mark which proved to be the final lead of the game for the Shamrocks. A pair of foul shots by Randy Bowel! pushed Argos in front 19-18 at the halftime. The Shamrocks did tic the score

early in the second half as once again they controlled the tip and Snyder was fouled in the act of shooting, only to hit the second attempt for the 19 all tie. However, the Dragons came right back with a lay-in by Steve Davis and then eventually followed with a fast break lay-in by Jennings and a 14 footer by Terry Davis for a 25-19 point lead before Dave Hartsough drilled a 13 footer from the lane area. A medium baseline shot by Steve Davis with 3:08 showing on the clock ended the scoring for the period as neither team could get a point in the last half of this period. Argos held a 27-21 lead heading into the final stanza. The Shamrocks once again gain cd possession of the opening tip and Dudzinski tipped in a missed shot just 12 seconds into the period for the Shamrocks. A three-point play on a rebound basket by Jennings, the shortest player on the Argos team, really hurt, but a minute later Hartsough popped another turn around shot from the lane and with just over half the period left. Stefaniak was successful on a steal and solo lay-in effort to trim the lead to 30-27. Argos returned the steal however. as Terry Davis made a clean theft of a ball only to be hammered and he hit both free throws. Another pilfer, this one by Terry Davis again, led to a nice feed to Daugherty for a short shot and the lead was quickly up to seven, 34-37. Time was becoming very important now and Stevens finally drilled a 15 footer with only 2:20 left as Argos was killing some time with the ball on the offensive end of the floor. They ran 35 seconds off before Steve Davis was left open underneath and he hit a lay-in on which he was fouled and he completed the three point play. After Donathen drew a foul right away and hit both ends of the situation, the Shamrocks were forced to put on pressure and a quick pass down the floor found Daugherty open for a shot a little longer than the coach wanted taken until it went in. This kept the lead at eight with just 1:12 left in the game and despite two baskets by Stevens and Dudzinski to cut the lead to four, the overpressing defense left Argos with another solo effort when a good pass found Daugherty open for the game's final basket and the 41-35 victory. The Shamrocks played well in streaks in this game and had some typical "cold” streaks that young teams have. They didn’t get the breaks that come in key situations and that was a factor in the defeat, the second loss to the Argos resenes this season as thev fell bv 12 points in season play earlier this month. Argos was paced by the center. Steve Davis, who totaled 15 points on five baskets and as many free throws. He was the only plaver in the game in double figures. Ihe Shamrocks scoring was balanced, there just wasn't enough of it as Dudzinski s seven points was high. Box Score Argos fg ft p T. Davis 2 2 3 Daughertv 4 0 3 S. Davis 5 5 2 Jennings 3 1 2
