The Independent-News “SONDAY” ENJOYED MY RESIDENTS By Florence Peek December 23 fell on Saturday but to three of us it was "Sonday". Doris Nowels was surprised by a visit from her younger son, Graydon. from Kendallville, Indiana; Pam Saylor received a suprise visit from her son, Douglas Williams, from Chicago and her grandson and granddaughter, Michael and Barbara; and Art and I were surprised by a visit from our son, Glenn, and his wife Joann, from Park Forest, Illinois, a granddaughter. Karen Knudson and her husband Douglas and our first great grandchild, Samuel, from Morris. Illinois, whom we had seen only twice before. These visits meant more than material gifts, especially since all had travelled a great distance. Then on Christmas Eve, Santa paid a visit to every resident, leaving a red felt stocking with each one’s name, filled with small gifts: apples, orange, hand lotion, cologne, candy bars, dietetic cream cookies, etc. This made a joyous Christmas morning. At noon Helen Murphy served us with a delicious dinner of baked ham, mashed potatoes, a sweet potato, apple, celery and marshmallow salad and pumpkin pic and coffee. The dining room was quite empty as many residents went out to spend the day with their families. The big party of the year was held on December 28, music being furnished by Roger Kronk and his band. The usual New Years Eve fun prevailed, helped by Amy Wardman and Pauline Klopfenstein. We thank all the organizations who visited us during the holidays and left gitfs for us. We thank the churches who served us on Monday nights and those who brought communion throughout the year, and also those who came for Sunday afternoon services. A big thank you to all. Two more of our residents have died. Pearl Stull and Laura Fair and

we have three new residents, Alice Pittman, Agnes Awald and Leslie Hazelbaker. Our laundry spervisor met with an automobile accident and had to stay home a few weeks. Ruth Dipert of "Housekeeping'' filled the vacancy except on Tuesday when Shirley Redman filled in and Saturday and Sunday when Sharon Luczky filled in. The void caused by Ruth’s filling in was taken over by Ward Straker graciously. 79 MAZDA RX7 OWNERS MAY GET REFUND All Indiana residents who have purchased a 1979 Mazda RX 7 in the last year may be entitled to a refund on their 1979 Excise Tax.
