Glenn Girls Win Opener In 1979 Bi-County Action The John Glenn girls basketball team opened defense of their 1978 Bi-County Tourney title by handing North Liberty a 45-23 loss on Monday night in first round action of 1979 tourney at Walkerton Elementary School. The North Liberty girls were never really in the game with the balanced attack of the Glenn girls playing without their leading scorer. Mary Huffstetter, out with a knee injury. Barb Mann, a senior veteran, paced the early going with seven first quarter points and was strong under the baskets as the Lady Falcons jumped to a 13-2 first quarter lead. By halftime the game had been decided as the Glenn team had expanded their lead to 21-6. The North Liberty girls never quit in the second half but just don't have the power to stay with the Glenn team. They outscored the Lady Falcons 11-5 in the third period to cut the lead to 26-17. but a big 19 point final period that found six Glenn players splitting the points, iced up the contest for the 22 point margin of victory. Mann ended with 14 points as eigh girls in all shared in the scoring. Maenhout hit five second half baskets to total 10 for the losers who only had four girls score in their losing effort.
