Teams Return To Action This Week End Ihe John Glenn Falcons and North Liberty Shamrocks will return to action after losses in their respective holiday tournies. Ihe Glenn team will play on the road twice, at 7:00 p.m. Friday the action will start at Oregon-Davis and on Saturday night, 6:30 will find the B Team starting at Triton. Ihe Shamrocks will travel to Argos to face the unbeaten Argos Dragons with B Team action starting at 6:30 p.m. Indiana Events In January Activities in Indiana during the month of January feature a variety of winter sports available in the Hoosier state. The Silva Cup Cross Country Ski Meet is scheduled for Soldiers Memorial Park in l.aPorte (LaPorte County) January 6-7. The two-day meet also includes a cross country skiing clinic. Competition is available for men, women and children in divisions from novice to advanced. Just in case, "no snow ” dates are January 13 14. Bendix Woods County Park will be the scene of a Winter Sports Festival January 20-21 at New ( arlislc (St. Joseph County ). Cross country ski races are sanctioned by the United State Skiing Association. Also included are snow sculpturing and torchlight skiing. A host of winter sport activities are highlighted January 20-21 at the Mr. Wawasee Winter Carnival in New Pans (Elkhart County ). Ski racing, relay races, a costume contest. an obstacle course, sled races, movies and snow sculpturing are a few of the highlights. ADDITION TO HIGHLIGHTS In reporting the Highlights for 1978 it was inadvertently omitted in August of the passing of Mr. Harry C. Doll. 201 Roosevelt Road, on August 4. He was a retired service station proprietor and he had operated Doll's Service Station, in Walkerton, since 1933. He was a former president of the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Walkerton Town Council, a member of the United Methodist Church and a past master, past secretary and 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge as well as being a member of the Council of the 33rd degree since September of 1966. CHAMBER TO MEET JANUARY 11 AT NOON The Walkerton Chamber of Commerce will meet at the J&J Restaurant on Thursday. January 11. at 12:00 noon. Helen Smith, Librarian, To Retire Soon The Walkerton-Lincoln Township Public Library is looking for a replacement for Mrs. Helen J. Smith, who will be retiring soon. Fhe head librarian of any librarv district serving a population of less than S,(XX) must hold a I ibrarian V certificate or at least a temporary Librarian V permit. To be eligible for a Librarian V certificate an applicant must have at least: a. Two years of academic education (60 semester hours) at an accredited college plus b. Nine semester hours of librarv science in: selection of librarv materials, reference and information sources, and public librarv administration. .A person who has the two years of college could meet the library science requirement by taking the certification examinations instead of the course, if preferred. The librarv science courses are offered at the Indiana University campus in South Bend. Anyone who is appointed acting librarian must apply for a certificate or permit within the first six months after appointment. A temporary permit may be renewed tw ice, for a period of one year each time, if the acting librarian has made some progress (taken courses or exams) toward meeting the requirements for a permanent certificate. To be eligible for the first temporary Librarian V permit, an applicant must have a minimum of 30 semester hours (one year) of college education. For interview please call the librarv at 586-2933 for an appointment. P-L-J- SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The Polk Lincoln Johnson School Board met in regular session on I uesdav. January 2 Superintendent Harold R Muncie, gave a summarv of the accomplishments the board had done in 19'8. Things mentioned included building tennis courts and field event areas at the high school; converted the stage at Urey Middle School into a musicroom; bought ten sewing machines for the home economics departments; installed new speakers in the gymnasium and purchased stage curtains at the high school; repaired the roofs at the three schools; bought two tractors for snow removal; and planted trees and shrubs at the high school. A copy machine was demonstrated to the board but the board will look at other mixlels before making a decision to purchase one at this time. The next regular meeting will be I uesdav. Januarv 16. at 7:00 p.m. in the administration building.
