Argos Comes On Strong To Drop Falcons 69-51 The Argos Dragons, unbeaten in the !9’’B-79 season heading into the Culver Holiday Tourney, played the part of a "sleeping giant" Wednesday night as the John (ilenn Falcons took on the job of giant killers. For three quarters the game was scry tight with (ilenn holding the lead more than they trailed in the first 24 minutes. However, in the final stanza the sleeping giant awoke and turned into the small school basketball power everyone thought they were and walked awav from the giant killers to win what appeared by the final score, an easy victory 69-51 over the Falcons. However. Argos coach Phil Wcybright would probably be the first to tell you the Dragons were in a game and Glenn coach Jim Waller would agree that "if" . . . but that "if" never came to keep the momentum in the Falcons favor. The loss was Glenn's sixth in seven games this season while Argos staved unbeaten in seven starts. ’ he Falcons have been their own worst enemies at given times this war and that kind of happened in the second half of this game even though considerable "help" was ottered bv the first half sleeping giant. Argos. A half court pressure defense, a lot more intensity >n offense and taking the ball to the basket were the Dragons’ main wapons in this halt while Glenn's shortcomings were another ex tended cold shooting streak, some bad passes and other errors plus the sudden abilitv to keep the Dragons from penetrating in the fateful second halt I he scoring started slow as both teams were in a rather tight defense and neither team did much moving to the basket Argos did a hat thev could to their mainstav. Bill O'Dell, but some of the other Dragons seemed to be just going through the motions on offense Meanwhile the Falcons weren't gettin quite as dose in against

Bill () Dell hit one of two charitv tosses to make it

28-26 at the main intermission I he Dragons came out verv late and with a little different game plan in the second half. Ihuv t<x>k the game to the Falcons a little more but in most of the third quarter a successful effort was made to double and triple team Bill O Dell to keep the ball out of his hands. Jennings opened with two free throws, but Tuttle banged one from the right corner for (ilenn Malone's speed paid off for a lav in but Ochs took a beautiful lead pass from Greg Gratner to match that lay in. ( alhoun hit a pair of free shots to again tie the score but once again the blue chip man. Ochs, hit taking a Tom Moore feed for a lav in. Scheetz, onlv a sophomore, but a huskv verv anxious and ag gressive plaver. hit back-to-back baskets to give the Dragons their first lead since the opening quart er. his last basket coming w ith 2:19 left in the third quarter Ochs once again tied the score from the baseline. but Malone again drove hard to get a lay-in and the lead. Bill O'Dell widened the gap to 40-36 with a lay-in before Ochs got two more points, this time from the foul line. Bill O'Dell hit one of two to move three ahead, hut a falling desperation effort bv Muncie from the left side just before the horn, found the mark and it was 41-40 in Argos' favor with one quarter left Ihe rest of the game was all Argos. Ihe second half had been dominated bv the Dragons even though the score didn't show it However, the final quarter did show it as (he Dragons and the fine moves of O'Dell casih pulled awav lor tfic win Bill O'Dell hit the first Iwo baskets and after Scheetz canned two one pointers. luttle hit one of two for (ilenn Jennings scored a lav in and then O'Dell put a shot back up and in as he was dominating play underneath luttle linallv broke the Falcon field goal drought with a tip in on winch he was fouled and Muncie grabbed the missed free throw and got it back up and in for four fast [joints. making it 51 45 onlv to have the Dragons come back with 12
