Falcons Fall To Strong Bremen Comeback 73-63 Two winless and pretty unexperienced teams meet Saturday night as the John Glenn Falcons hosted the Bremen Lions The Falcons were seeking their first win in three starts while Bremen was after its initial victors in four outings As expected, two teams with a lot of desire and hustle but not so long on talent and experience. battled it out and it was a good game to watch. The plav was close until the final couple of minutes when the visiting Lions put it all together to pull away for a "’3-63 victors. Bremen won this game with better defense, a lot of hustle and certainly more benefit from the free thross line where thes turned opportunities late in the game into crucial points after starting cold from the line. In all the Falcons outscored the 1 ions from the fltxir but the 19-' edge in charity tosses more than had its effect. The game started on an even basis as the two teams went back and forth at each other. Bremen's lone holdover from their very successful team of last year. Kent Adams, opened the scoring with a short lane shot. Tom Moore, now seeming to move well after a late football knee strain, popped one from 16 but Adams came back w ith a 14 foot jumper for the guests. A very short left baseline shot by Terry Anspaugh tied it at four but a good looking sophomore prospect. Bud Robinson, put the Lions ahead

with a 16 foot bank shot from the side Kris Tuttle tied the score with a short baseline shot and Tom Moore put Glenn ahead for the first time with a solo lay-in after a steal by the hustling Falcon defense. The back and forth play continued until a three-point play by Andy Swain pushed Bremen back , in front but Anspaugh matched this on a rebound shot on which he was i fouled and his third point try was > true. Robinson scored from the baseline on a short turning jumper . but Bob Muncie got the quarter's : last two baskets, an eight footer from the left baseline and a 16 foot i jumper from the right side to give > the Falcons a 17-14 lead after one. Bremen stayed close and took a lead shortly after the second stanza I started only to have the Falcons then dominated the play as they were playing with some intensity at both ends in this second quarter. After a pair of free throws by Todd Graverson for the Lions. Rob । Moore hit a 14 foot jumper for I Glenn but Robinson and Adams , came back with back-to-back bas- • kets for a 20-19 lead. Here the > Falcons started to dominate. It started with four straight free i throws, two each by Tuttle and Steve Hardesty. After Adams and > Tom Moore traded baskets. Mark Andrews cut the Falcon lead to one with a lay-in as the Lions beat the i press being put on by the Falcons. Tom Moore hit from in close and Craig Ochs drove hard for a lay-in on which he scored but was called for a charge letting Robinson match the two points from the foul line. However, a three point play by Muncie upped the Falcons lead to six and the two teams spent the last three minutes playing about even

to let Glenn cherish a 37-32 halftime lead. The second half was different. The Lions altered their zone defense of the first half into a variety of defenses that hurt the Falcons shot selection in the second half. Add to this. Bremen, despite being slightly smaller than Glenn, tried more to take the ball to the basket especially right down the middle and with some excellent hustle by a couple of their younger boys, took control of the game as the momentum slowly swung in their favor. Glenn jumped to a quick nine point lead as Anspaugh hit the first two shots of the second half in less than a minute. However. Swain put on a one-man hustling show for Bremen that found the Lions outscoring Glenn 17-10 in the rest of this quarter with Swain personally accounting for over half of these points plus gaining several good rebounds. Too add to the problems that were to hurt later, the Glenn team started picking up some fouls that found two starters getting their fourth fouls which hurt the defense. By the end of the quarter, after the Lions had caught up at 49 all. Muncie hit a short baseline shot to keep the Falcons ahead 51-49 going into the final quarter. It didn't take the Lions long as they were controlling the tempo and play of the game definately at this point. Adams scored right after the tip coming out of a scramble and driving for a lay-in. After a Falcon missed shot. Scott Muncy, a muscular six footer who had come in during the second half, put the Lions ahead as he was doing yoeman work under the basket. Glenn's Muncie knotted it at S 3 all with a corner shot, but this was to be the Falcons only basket in the first half of the final stanza while Bremen took command. Robinson hit from his favorite baseline spot and then added one of two free throws. He then canned another from the corner and Adams hit one of two free throws to open a 59-53 lead before Ochs drove for a basket at the 4:01 mark to break a Falcon drought. The visitors then basically wrapped it up as Adams hit two more from | the charity line and after Graverson popped a 10 footer in. he was I fouled as Bremen was trying to run the clock down on every offensive opportunity and Graverson hit two more one-pointers for a 65-55 lead w ith just 2:39 left. The Falcons just couldn't offset the momentum the Lions had . gained and added to their own worries with some poor shot selection and the inability to stop the ball-handling of the Lions that was killing the clock. Tuttle got a tip in but two more free shots by Adams matched this. Tuttle then hit from 8 foot. but an easy all-alone lay-in against the press by Muncy kept the lead at 10 and shortly after another foul gave Robinson his final two points of the night. Bob Muncie got two baskets in the final 19 seconds while Adams was adding two more points from the line to set the final score at 73-63. The Lions in winning, hit 12 of their 19 free throws in the final stanza, when it was very important. Vp to that time they hadn't hit very consistently from the line. Glenn played much better and used better shot selection in the first half. The adjustments Bremen made at halftime really aided the Lions cause and Glenn just didn't came back with the same intensity they displaced early in the game. Adams la* ads All Scorers Kent Adams, the Bremen junior sharpshooter, led all scorers with 22 jxiints on seven baskets and 8 of 11 from the free throw line. He had fine support from the sophomore Robinson with 21 points, most of them coming from the baseline areas, and Swain, with his big 11 point third quarter, ended up 14 points and a key performance in that turn around third period. Bob Muncie had 19 points on nine baskets and a single free throw 19

points, most of these coming from the medium 10-15 foot range. Anspaugh. Tuttle and Tom Moore each totaled 12 but points were spread pretty thin behind these totals.
