Glenn Girls Win Over Mishawaka In Opener 55-49 I he John Glenn girls basketball team opened the |9' , B-"9 season Tuesdav evening with a home game against Mishawaka. The Glenn team came out on top in this one 55-49. The visitors started well and gamed a lead in the early going but the I adv Falcons, playing without Marv Huffstetter. hobbled with an ankle sprain, got it all together as the game progressed and shot well from the floor to take command of the game in the second quarter. They had overtaken a 17-12 first quarter deficit and led by three at halftime, 30-2 T I he Glenn girls then dominated the third period and moved to a 12 point advantage outscoring the Mishawaka girls by a 14-5 margin. However, the visitors wouldn't say die. and made a run at the Glenn team in the final stanza but the victory was not to be denied in this game. Teresa Kemp led the Lady Falcons with 16 points and also pulled off a team high of nine rebounds. Barb Mann and Tammy Tuttle each had 14 points for the victors. Vernasco paced the visitors with 14 points while a former resident. Julie Hartsough, was next w ith 12 points. The Glenn girls did some good floor shooting, hitting 23 of 56 in this game and had a team total of 19 assists. Coach Osowski was pleased with the performance for the opening game and playing without their most experienced player. The next two games of the Glenn girls, next Tuesday at Oregon-Dav-is and then a home game against Plymouth, will have the varsity contests played first and then the junior varsity following due to the shortage of players with only 15 able bodied gals at this time. Box Score John Glenn fg ft p Kemp 644 Mann -7 0 4
