Jeffrey Alan Howell, died at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in an airplane crash southwest of Mentone. Ihe plane, shortly after takeoff, only about 500 foot off the ground, sputtered and then went into a nose dive and crashed in a cornfield. They were enroute to Argos. The Federal Aviation Administration from South Bend is investigating the crash. Jerry Alan Howell was born on October lb. 1948. in South Bend, to John L. and Vera Tisdale Howell and he had lived at Mentone for seven months going there from Argos. He married Betty Ulbricht on January 3. 1969, who survives. He was owner and operator of the Mentone Airport and of Howell’s Spraying Service. He was a 1967 graduate of LaVille High School. Mr. Howell held several aviation licenses, Air Frame and Power. Inspection of Aircraft and Private and Commercial Pilot licenses. He attended the First Baptist Church, in Mentone, and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church Conservative, Argos. Surviving along with his wife are a son, James Aaron. 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Howell, South Bend; two brothers, David and Larry, both of South Bend; his grandfather. Milo Howell, South Bend; and his grandmother, Mrs. Lulu Tisdale. King's Tree, South Carolina. Jeffrey Alan Howell was born on November 24, 1971. He was a member of the first grade class at Mentone and attended the First Baptist Church. Mentone. Surviving along with his mother and brother are his grandparents. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ulbricht. of North Liberty; and Mr. and Mrs. John L. Howell. South Bend; his maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Lulu Roush. Services were at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the First Baptist Church, Mentone, with Rev. Gordon Chitty, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Southlawn Cemetery. South Bend. MINNIE M. BROOKER Mrs. Minnie M. Brooker. 88. of TX) S. Indiana. Walkerton, formerly of Koontz Lake, died at 11:10 a.m. Monday in the LaPorte Hospital after a brief illness. She was born on March 12. 1890. at North Liberty and had lived at Koontz Lake for "1 years. She was married to Alexander ( . Warner, who died on January 15. 1936. In June of 1942. she married Edwin Earl Brooker, who died on May 1”. 1978. Surviving are a daughter. Mrs. Margaret Amstein. of Portage; two sons. George N. Warner, of Walkerton, and Lt. Col. Ret. Max O. Warner of San Antonio, Texas; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Paul ( rill, of Kewanna, Mrs. Guy Anderson, of Rochester, and Mrs. Mildred Jones, of Culver; a step son. I dwin Bnxiker. Jr., of Wildwood. III.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. November 9. at the Nusbaum Elkin Funeral Home, Walk erton, with Rev William E.
