“Why We Must Vote On November 7”
Our freedom to vote should now become one of the most important parts of our lives. In this country, we can vote for our public office holders from president on down. In most countries this right does not exist. Yet over the years we've become lax and tend to neglect this right. Many of us don't take the time to vote. They claim that both parties have failed us. so what's the use of voting The Watergate and other scandies in our Congress make a person feel this way. But let's not give up by neglecting our right to vote. Making it easy for those officials who enter office for ‘ profit’'. Housecleaning is needed. As the years go by since 1945 corruption is our towns, cities, counties, state and federal government goes from bad to worse. How easy we forget about the young men who died to preserve a “Free" nation. The longer we leave the profitting officials in our government, these spend-crazy Representative and Congressmen throughout the country who find it necessary to have money to play with “Our Tax Dollars." After 43 years of voting and being an active Democrat a many wants his say. Born and brought up in Steel City, Gary. Indiana, I guess I could talk and write from now to doomsday and very little would help. Because of its giant steel mills and big money, honest elections are hard to come by. But we must keep trying. This is why we are the great nation we are today. We fight for our rights as a free people. Corruption is everywhere. Even in our small towns. Let’s not let it spread. Put in good officials and keep the bad out.

I am now semi-retired not necessarily because I wanted to but because millions of dollars allegedly were misused by public officials elected and appointed in Lake County, Indiana. The C.E.T.A. program, service and employment for the elderly, was a pilot program whose purpose was to tap the previously unused resource of the elderly citizens to help other elderly citizens who are less fortunate financially and in state of bad health. We helped hundreds of needy old timers. But the C.E.T.A. program like some others died because of misused funds, “Federal Money" called grants. This will now have to be paid back by the taxpayers. Not by the officials who did the misleading. Now I am asking my friends,‘ Eagles. Moose, Teamsters, steel workers, food handlers, construction workers, fellow Woodmen, Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber members to vote on election day. In Starke County we want our own representatives. Maintain Clifford Allen for Democratic Oregon Township Trustee and add “Bill Ellinger", a Republican, for Sheriff. A man for all the people of Starke County. Both men live at Koontz Lake. Our main goal is to vote and keep voting. Get your family of voting age and your friends out on election day. Vote for the men who will serve you best, which I am sure you try to do. May it be Democratic or Republican or an Independent split vote. Be your own judge on election day.
