Walkerton, caught this northern pike on July 19th at the east end of Koontz Lake on a cane pole. Lhe big fish measures 42 inches long and weighed lb and a half pounds It is the largest pike caught in Indiana to date this year in inland lakes. Fall Decor At Club Meeting The Woman's Community Club of Walkerton met Friday afternoon. October 6. at the Community Building m Walkerton. Dessert was served at 1:00 p.m. by hostesses Frances Sohn. Esther Smith, Ruth Bobbe, Jeanette Grace and Selma Pry. chairman. Tables were attractively decorated with colorful bottles of vintage wine lying on beds of fall colored grape leaves and supplemented with wild ripe grapes. Frances Sohn ask for the blessing. Members gave their pledge of allegiance and sang one verse of God Bless America when the meeting was called to order by Mrs. Robert Bowman, president. She welcomed the 45 members present and spoke about the second petition in the Collect which is repeated by all of the women at every meeting which is 'Let us be done with fault finding and leave off self seeking.’ Devotions were presented by Mrs. William Hughes in which she told an interesting story about Charles Wesley, author of the beautiful hymn Jesus Lover Os My Soul Mr and Mrs M. D. Strom beck, of Pls mouth, who recently returned from an interesting trip to South America then shared their most interesting and beautiful colored slides to the group. Mr. Strombeck showed the slides and Mrs. Strombeck was an excellent
narrator as they took us with them on their travels thru many interesting cities. We saw huge fortresses made of giant rocks. Rainbow Falls. Sugar Loaf. Botanical Gardens and many more highlights of their trip. Mrs. Pauline Stanley advised that Christmas gifts for patients at Beatty Hospital in Westville should be brought to the November l 7 th meeting. A substantial collection was made to be donated for expenses and equipment to the Cardio-pul- * monary resuscitation program being launched in Walkerton now. Mrs. Weltha Burnside and Mrs. Elfreda Onika were greeted with the b irthday song for their October birthdays. Mrs. Marv Bauer reported that October is the month to join the Goodwill Association. lhe club is always working for the betterment of the Community building and Mrs. Rudy Elder reported that on Tuesday evening of last week she and Mr. Elder. Rev. and Mrs. Bowman and Mr. and Mrs. Basil Curl met there to spend the evening working. Eight large tables were rennovated with ham1 mer, nails, paint and elbow grease. Anne Jackson, president. presided at the meeting that was opened with the pledge to the flag and the repeating of the club creed. Lois Shetland and Helen Pogodzmski led the group in singing several songs as well as the birthday and anniversary songs. Lhe annual Harvest Dinner has been changed from October 28 to October 21. lhe pot luck dinner for members and their husbands is set for b:(X) p.m. Cancer sewing will be on Wednesday . October 11 lhe committee for the dav served a delicious lunch and had bingo for entertainment.
