The loss was number four in five starts for the Shamrocks w ho just haven’t been coming up with the big play to win while the Falcons remained undefeated at 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play, their last year in this league. However the try for two points failed as a run was stopped short but the Shamrocks had that all-im-portant first score and led 6-0. Fairfield came roaring back on their next possession as they moved right down the field and capped the sustained drive with a 25 yard scoring pass from Gary Dausman to Rob Kirkdorfer. This came with 1:25, left in the first quarter and Mike Garner gave the Falcons a lead they never lost as he ran in the two point conversion to make it 8-6.

That proved to be all the scoring in the first half even though Shreve continued to have a good 24 minutes rushing for well over 100 yards in the first half. The second half found both teams getting one touchdown. Fairfield scoring first in the third quarter as their senior quarterback Dausman capped a drive with a four yard run. He then passed to Kirkdorfer for two more points to make it 16-6 and this put the Shamrocks in a position where they had to score twice if they were to get back in the lead. she Shamrocks did score one more time to get back in the game as Mike Fair caught a 13 yard scoring pass from Mike Coppens in the final quarter to trim the lead by six. Mark Romwalter then pulled in a Chris Lemert pass to make the score lb-14 on the two point conversion. but the Shamrocks were unable to get that necessary one more score on the board.
