Falcons Win 3rd Over Culver 22-0 Friday The John Glenn Falcons moved ahead of the board Friday night as they won their third victory in five games, a 22-0 shutout of the Culver Cavaliers. The young Culver team was no match for the Falcon defense. a strong group all year, that picked off four Culver passes and covered one fumble to set the pace for the game. The Cavaliers were forced to kick after taking the opening kickoff, but Glenn fumbled back to them. After one first down on a completed pass, a fourth and one situation from the Falcon 19 was stopped by the defense and the Falcons held off the first threat. Glenn finally picked up their initial first down late in the first quarter, but again were forced to punt. Culver again was stopped and kicked back to the Falcons as play was now in the second quarter. Tom M(X>re fielded the punt and got a short return to make it first and 10 Glenn at their own 4b. From this point, a sustained drive of nine plays unfolded with Moore having one 14 v ard gainer and Greg Brovoid finally capped the drive breaking free from the 23 and running in for the touchdown. He then passed to Rod Miller for two points and Glenn held an 8-0 lead with just 6:34 left in the first half. On Culver’s second play from scrimmage, a fumble was covered by Tom Nunley and the Falcons had excel'ent field position moving from the Cavalier 27. This time it took six plays to move into the end zone with Mark Izdepski plowing in from one yard out to cap the drive. Again Moore had a big gainer, a crucial 12 yard gain on a pitchout to sustain the drive. Izdepski then kicked the extra point and the Falcons had a 15-0 lead with 2:33 showing on the dock Any ideas the Cavaliers had of moving the ball late in the half were stopped when Izdepski intercepted a pass well into Glenn’s territory to let the Falcons run out the clock. The scoring in the second half didn't take long to come about. On the kickoff. Moore bobbled the bouncing ball, adding to a breakdown in the Culver coverage. In picking it up finally, just a few steps were needed to break past the Culver wall and he was on his way to a 73 yard kickoff return Once again Izdepski booted the point after and the Falcons had extended their lead to 22-0. The rest of the game was scoreless as both defenses tightened and Glenn couldn’t sustain anything, getting only one first down in the second half, that coming on a Culver penalty, before coach John Hostrawser turned the offensive play over to the reserves for the entire fourth quarter. Book Fair Set For October 2-6 In Walkerton Project Home Base w ill sponsor a student book fair from October 2 to the 6th. Students will be able to browse and purchase books. The book fair will be open during the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Storyland section of the libraryin the Walkerton Elementary School. The book fair committee invites all students, parents and visitors to attend the fair. The fair will encourage student interest in reading and in building home libraries, and will also contribute to a worthwhile project. All profits will be used for Project Home Base. Sam Frame To Be Honored Jasper Elkin. Worshipful Master of Walkerton Lodge No. 619 F & AM. announces at the regular stated meeting of the lodge October 5, Same Frame, of Walkerton, will receive his 50 year pin for continuous membership. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Frame, of Tarpon Springs, Florida, wil arrive so that Tom may make the presentation to his father. It is hoped many master masons will attend this eventful evening. HONOR JOHNSON TOWNSHIP 4-H’ERS The Johnson Township 4 H Achievement meeting was held on I uesday evening at the communitv building with pins furnished by the I aPorte County Farm Bureau being presented to the members by Clyde Snodgrass, township chairman. Each 4-H’er also received a silver dollar from the Township Farm Bureau The 4-H advisory committee. Harold Knowlton. Mrs. Charles Daube, Mrs. Dean Anderson and Floyd Dipert, presented jackets to Todd Anderson and Jeff Keeling. The leaders. Kay Anderson and Eleanor Mollenhauer, Jon Smith and James Keeling each received a gift. A salad dessert luncheon was served at the close of the meeting. ANNUAL POT LUCK DINNER The Past Matrons and Patrons of Walkerton Chapter Order of Eastern Star will have their annual pot luck dinner on Sunday . October 1 at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. DeWayne Pavey. Bring a covered dish and your own table service. Kate Godw in and Joe .laske were united in marriage during a b:3O p.m. candlelight ceremony on September 9, at the United Methodist Church, Walkerton, with Rev William Hughes officiating at the double ring ceremony. Isle candles and candicabras flanked the altar The organist and Pat God win. brother of the bride, worte and sang a song, “Lighthouse.” The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Kathry n Tiede, of Walkerton, and Mr. Jerry Godwin, Pennsylvania. The groom is the son of Mr. Sylvester Jaske, Koontz Lake, and Mrs. Phyllis Bailey, South Bend. The bride chose a long antique white gown with accordian pleats from the waist in tiers and a long veil trimmed in French lace. She carried a bouquet of baby white roses and carnations with baby’s breath. She was given in marriage by her father. Maid of honor for her sister w as Shcileen Godwin, Walkerton. She was attired in a burgundy gown and carried pink carnations. Flower girl was Margaret Godwin, sister of the bride, Walkerton, and Regina Snodgrass, niece, was the ring bearer. They were both attired in flowcred wine colored dresses. Leonard Jaske served his brother as best man. Ushers were David Scott and Bill Flaugher. They were in burgundy tuxedos and antique white ruffled shirts. The mother of the bride wore a rose colored silky pant suit. The mother of the groom was in a twopiece light green dress. A reception was held immediately following in the LaPaz Com munity Building for 250 guests. A three-tiered wedding cake with a fountain centered the serving table. The bride is a graduate of Dallas High School. Pennsylvania, and she attended Indiana University for Art for two years She is employed at the Holiday Inn. Ply mouth. High School and is presently employed with Midlan Engineering. South Bend. Register At Powers Ford For Punt, Pass, Kick Registrations for the 1978 Punt. Pass & Kick competition cosponsored locally by the Walkerton Jaycees and Powers Ford Sales continue to roil in. The contest, open to "any youngster eight through 13 years of age, students in the Polk-Lincoln-John son; Oregon-Davis and North Liberty school systems may register at the Powers Ford Sales, 717 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, during regular business hours. Any boy or girl meeting the age requirements who can punt, pass and kick a football — or who’d like to try — will want to compete. Participants compete only against others their own age and there is no body contact. No special equipment is needed and participation does not impair a youngster's amateur standing. Judges score one point for each foot the ball travels on the fly, minus one point for each foot the ball lands to the right or left of the center tape. Youngsters, accompanied by a parents, may register until September 29 for the local event to be held on October ’ at 10:00 am at the John Glenn field. There is no entrance fee.
