WOMAN’S COMMUNITY CLUB HEARS SPEAKER Ihe meeting of the Woman’s Community Club of Walkerton was held at the Community Building on Friday. September 15. The president, Mrs. Robert Bowman. opened the meeting quoting the first section of the Collect: “Keep us, God. from pettiness, let us be large in thought, in word, in deed," and asked that members use this thought in their daily lives. Devotions were given by Mrs. William Hughes. Mrs. Joseph Sills, President Elect of St. Joseph County, Indiana Federation of Clubs, was the guest speaker. Mrs. Sills, a very charming lady, gave several humorous readings from the writings of Erma Bombeck. The corresponding secretary, Dorothea Brenner, read a letter from Tom Scanlon, nursing scholarship winner of the club, detailing his activities for the 1978 term and thanking the members for the scholarship. Mrs. Rudolph Eider reported that two tables and a 100 cup coffee maker had been purchased and donated to the Community Club. Hostesses for the day were Mrs. Roy Hostetter, chairman, Mrs. James Gray. Mrs. Stanley Gryb, Mrs. Rov Powell, and Mrs. Clvde Walz. Ten new members were accepted into membership: Mrs. Frank Atkisson, Mrs. George Behnke, Mrs. Roman Brehm, Mrs. Herbert Carlson, Mrs. Paul Drake, Mrs. George Ferverda, Mrs. Stanley Karn, Mrs. George Myers, Mrs. Arthur Onika and Mrs. Emil Vische. Mrs. Bowman encouraged members to attend the district convention to be held at the First Baptist Church, Rochester, Indiana, on October 12. The district has asked that members donate an article to be auctioned off at this convention.
Ihe birthdays of Mrs. Howard Ferguson. Mrs. Victor Schmidt, and Mrs. Stanley Grvb were celebrated. The meeting was closed with the repeating of the Collect by all members present. SENIOR CITIZENS ARE ROLLING AGAIN The senior citizen bowlers were off to a good start with 17 bowling and nine spectators on Wednesday, September 13. Our champion from last season Stan Labno, had a 498 series with a 198 game and our top lady bowler, Sally Barna, had a 461 series with a 186 game. Not bad for 60 plus. By the end of the third game most of our bones were creaking and cracking but give us a couple of weeks and we will be back in form again. Don't forget, seniors, you are all welcome to join us at the Pizza Bowl Lanes, Walkerton, at 2:00 p.m. every Wednesday. NOTICE I will not be responsible for any debts other than made bv mvself.
