Glenn Mistakes Lead To 16-8 Defeat Friday The John Glenn Falcons had their every-other year bad game at Fairfield again Friday night and suffered through another one of those disappointing nights at the Elkhart County school which has been the custom in the games played at Fairfield. After looking so good against North Judson, they once again just fell apart against the Fairfield Falcons and let their own mistakes account for a 16-8 victory for the host team. This was the lasftrip to Fairfield as they arc pulling out of the Northern State I Conference so this trip will not be i made in the future. The loss was the second in three games this season for the Glenn team and their first conference <

Mark Izdcpski hit the middle for four and lorn Moore then skirted his end for 27 and a first down at
the Fairfield 48. An encroachment call on Fairfield added five more and Izdcpski hit for another yard before an attempted pitchout from Greg Brovoid to the trailing Moore, was batted free by Fairfield's Rob Kirkdorffer who then picked up the ball and won the race to the end zone, covering 47 yards from where be recovered the loose ball. A missed attempt to run the extra points in left it 6-0 but Glenn was trailing after just 1:43 even though they were the only team with the ball at this point. After the next kickoff, a first down was missed by two yards so Glenn punted to the Fairfield team and after two plays, recovered a fumble with Jeff Tinkey capturing his fourth free ball in the young season. This put the visitors in great field position at the Fairfield 43. Brovoid hit for four and Moore one before a swing pass was tried on third down, going straight into the hands of the rushing Rick Troyer who picked the short pass off in the offensive backfield and there was nothing but open spaces with 21 players basically behind him. The chase was fruitless and he ran 60 yards for their second lightninglike score and this time they passed for two points out of kick formation and with six and a half minutes gone, Fairfield had run two offensive plays to Glenn's 11 but their defense had accounted for 14 big points. Neither team was able to penetrate deep into the other’s territory after that as play stayed between the 30's basically as six punts • followed in the first half with very few first downs. The half ended 14-0 with Glenn running a total of 31 offensive plays to Fairfield’s 22, but the score was all Fairfield's. The second half was rather loosely play with a lot of penalties being paced off by the officials They had marched off nine infractions in the first half, which is quite a few. but they carried the ball as

much as the players in the second half to add more woe to a lack-luster performance by both offenses. A total of 22 were walked off for a total of 183 yards before the night was over. Once again, the play stayed near the middle of the field going back and forth with possession changes every few downs. Well into the fourth period it did look as if Fairfield might sustain a drive, but after moving well into Falcon territory. to the six, a holding call backed them off and three plays later a fumbled snap from center was covered by the center of the Glenn defensive line and then it was Glenn's turn to go backwards. A loss of eight on an end around, a loss of two on another run and two penalties mixed in, put Glenn really deep in their ow n territory on fourth down. A bad snap from center to Moore in the end zone to punt, sailed out of the field of play and Fairfield had a safety to increase their lead to 16-0 even though it seemed that was just icing on the cake at this time. Only 3:55 remained and Glenn still had to kick to the host Falcons. They then ran six plays, cutting most of the time off the clock before Glenn took over on downs. After another 15 yarder was walked off against Glenn and in the last minute of play, things turned around rapidly as Moore got free for a thrilling 71 yard touchdown run, crossing the goal line with :30 showing on the clock. A run by ■ Doug Miller made it 16-8 and all of a sudden, even though time was almost gone, the Fairfield total was in reach of a tie with another score and a two point conversion. Everyone in the park knew an onside kick was coming, but the little lofted kick by Moore was muffed by Fairfield and a host of Glenn boys covered the ball at the Fairfield 44. Miller gained 15 and got out of bounds with just :07
showing. Moore then lofted one towards the goal line and a streaking Steve Morris, but pass interference was called, this in high school a 15 yard penalty, not put in play at the spot of the infraction. Now it was first and 10 at about the 14 with just two ticks of the clock left and after a timeout, the plan was to try and spring Moore, who did get past the line on the outside, but was pulled down at the Fairfield 8 as the game ended, and exciting last 45 seconds to a rather bad otherwise show, especially on offense. Ihe statistics that show were in Glenn s favor, until you see that ‘ return yards'' column, where the 47 yard fumble recovery and run and the M yard pass interception comes into view. Other than that, one 55 yard pass play and Fairfield didn't go very far, Glenn ran the ball for a total of 248 yards.
