JG Festivities For Homecoming Begin Tonight Festivities for the John Glenn High School's 1978 Football Homeoming will begin Thursday, Sepember 14 at 6 o’clock. Starting at Urey Middle School the parade will travel down Van Buren Street, Georgia Street and John Glenn Drive to the bonfire on the football field Floats entering the parade w ill be built at school on Thursday. Crowning of the queen and king will be at half time of the John Glenn - l.aVille game Friday night September 15. Immediately following the game the Homecoming dance will be in the school cafeteria. Music will be furnished bv Northside Station, Hamlet. Homecoming activities are sponsored by the Student Council. Drew Adams is general chairman. Tompkins Resists Arrest, Finally Jailed Friday Friday evening, September 8. Daniel Tompkins, 23. of BO3*/j Van Buren Street, was finally taken into custody and placed under arrest following a brawl on Roosevelt Road with three Walkerton Police Officers. Ralph Campion, Gene Walkerton and Kenny Graves. The incident happened in front of the Rialto Theatre, just as the show was letting out at around 8:30 p.m. The brawl resulted after officers observed Tompkins driving erraticlv on U. S. 6 where he made a L-turn and left his auto in front of the threatre, a no-parking zone, by a fire hydrant. Officers Walker and Campion approached Tompkins and requested to see his drivers license and registration, he fled ihe scene. A wrecker was ailed for to tow the auto away a hen 1 ompkins returned w here the brawl took place. Officers Campion and Kcnnv Graves were bitten and were taken to Memorial Hospital for treatment. Ihe Walkerton Police called for assistance from the State, County and North Liberty Police Tompkins was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail where later he posted SSO bail on a charge of reckless driving. Police Chief Lewis Whitaker will confer with the prosecutor's office and said that other charges will be filed against Tomp kins. CHICKEN BARBEQUE SET The North Liberty Band Boosters are sponsoring a chicken barbequedinner in the cafeteria from 4:30 to '.OO p.m. on Friday, October 6, with the proceeds to be used to purchase fencing for around the baseball diamond. Following the dinner there will be a huge bon fire al the park and a snake dance. Coach Farrell will speak to the crowd. NOTICE Ma Bloomfield's chili is aiming September 29 at the John Glenn High School dining commons. Serving will begin at 4:00 p.m. and last throughout halftime of the Glenn versus North Liberty football game.

Bozo Tank Nets $265 For Children Edward Sousley American Legion Post 3b5. North Liberty, made a big splash at the Indiana Soldier and Sailors Children’s Home at Knightstown. Indiana, on Legion Day, September 10 with their bozo tank, donated by the North Liberty Fire Department. The tank was manned bv 18 Legion and Auxiliary members. A total of $265.00 was taken tn and donated to the home for the children's Christmas. That sounds like a good days work, a lot of fun and profitable for the orphans. Keep up the good work. REMINDER Die St. Patrick Women's Club social on Tuesday. September 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the school hall. A quartet is four people who think the other three can’t sing. •

Pass & Kick Competition This year the local level of PPAK will be co-sponsored by the Walkerton Jaycees in conjunction with Powers Ford Sales in Walkerton. National!, PP&K is elebrating its 18th anniversarv. It is sponsor-, ed by the Ford Dealers ot America in cooperation with the National F<xvtball League. Since it was started in 1961, the program has attracted millions of youngsters. Participants in the Punt. Pass & Kick program compete onlv against others their own age. Anv voungster 8 through 13 years of age, accompanied by a parent or guardian, may register to compete in PP&K at any participating Ford Dealer There is no entrance fee and no body contact during competition. No special equipment is needed and participating does not impair a voungster's amateur standing. Scoring is based on accuracy and range with one point added for every foot of punting, passing and kicking distance, and a point subtracted for every foot off a center line. Twelve national finalsits will compete for the National Championships in their age group during the half time of the NFC Champship game in Januarv Winners will have their names permanently inscribed in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
