A group of interns representing the Indiana Tourism Development Division of Indiana's Department of Commerce will be in North Liberty for the "Potato Creek Festival” on Friday and Saturday. August 11 and 12. Their Mobile Tourist Information Center will be located at the intersection of State Road 23 (Main Street) and route 4. Dr. Gaylord Saltzgaber, chairman of the two-day festival announced that no more applications for booths or exhibits are being accepted. There are now over 50 entries. Facilities for public parking has been a principal concern for the committee and progress has been made and is being made in this area. A major parking lot will be the Liberty Heights Subdivision west of town. Visitors are instructed to proceed on route 4. west of the center of town to Williams Street, then south Signs will be visible. A shuttle service of two hay wagons, pulled bv tractors will take people to and from the parking area. Other parking lots throughout the area will be marked by signs and visitors will be directed there. The 100 block between route 4 (Center St.) and Harrison St., of State route 23 (Main Street) will be closed off to all but pedestrian traf Tic Fridas and Saturdas North south and cast west traffic around North Liberts will be rerouted and additional police will be working in the area. The festival will run from Fridas morning at 9 00 to Saturdas even mg at 11 (M) p.m. Stores will remain open with special bargains and promotional events. Ihe 50 b<x>ths and exhibits will include arts and crafts, quilts home baked goods, garden fresh pnxlucc. cer amics. dolls, antiques, children’s art contest, hand blown glass, lea-ther-working. potato cands. potato soup, rock jewelry, and mans other tourist attractions. Diners will appreciate the varied cuisine. Ihe North Liberts United Methodist Church will feature home-made ice cream and sand wkhes. as well as sandwiches, cake, pic, am! drinks on Fridas from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Saturdas from I ! :30 amto 7 p m I his will take place in the church parking lot on route 23. The Beaver ( reek Wesleyan Church will conduct a Fish Frs at the Commumts Build-
ing on Fridas from sto 8 p.m. The members of REAL Services will hold another Grandma s Bake Shop in the Community building on Friday morning from 9to II a m. The North Liberty Masons will serve Potato Soup on Fridas and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday the North Liberts American Legion will serve breakfast from 7to 11 am. in the post home. The North Liberty High School Band Boosters Club will serve a chicken barbecue on Saturday from II a.m. toB p.m. in the Community Building. The Liberty Township Lions Club will be conducting children's games and competition on the law n in back of the Community building from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. "Little Roger's Dixieland Giants”, directed by Roger Kronk, will be in concert on Fridas evening, from 9 to 11 p.m. The "Baugo Creek Muzzle Loaders”, fresh from their big hit at Bendix Wtxxls will be camped behind Harvey's store both Fridas and Saturday They will demonstrate muzzle loading, as well as shixiting. They will also afford the public the opportunity to shixit the muzzle loaders and to throw tomahawks. Entries are coming in at this writing for the " I ater I rot” mara thon race to be run off on Saturdas morning at 10 a.m Harry Griffey is in charge and announced that the runners will depart from Beaver ( reck Wesleyan Church parking lot at 10, pnxeed to Potato ( reck Recreation Area, then come to North 1 iberts lor the finish. On Saturdas evening the South Bend Shrine Club Band will be pre vented in concert on the bank parking lot I his will be followed bs the "Vallesaires" barber shop singers from ”to 8 p.m The south will also be "served as a teen dame will take place on the bank parking lot from Bto 10 p.m. There will be two phases to the dance. /V "live” band will play and alternate w ith "disco” music. There will also be balloons on sticks for sale in the booth, as well as Potato Creek Park bumper stickers. The book. "Genesis of North Liberty”, by Dr. Saltzgaber will be for sale in the booth. Visitors may pick up free maps with festival schedules on the reverse side at the booth. The book by Dr Saltzgaber. as well as tickets sold on the aluminum boat and electric motor financed the second observance of North Liberty's "Potato Creek Festival”. The public is cordially invited to enjoy the rustic experience of a small tow n arts and crafts festival. Nora Wilson’s Art At Koontz Lake Library Ihe w atercolors and drv brush art of Nora Wilson is now being displayed at the Koontz Lake Library. Many of the pictures are of local scenes. Miss Wilson is rapidly becoming a very popular artist in and about Northern Indiana. Miss Wilson was Artist-of-the-Month in July at the Gallery-in-the-Garret at the 1(X) Center in Mishawaka She is a member of the Northern Indiana Artist, the St. Joe Watercolor Society and the Art Center in Century Center. She is one of thirty artists w ho operate the Gallery -in the-Garret. PLJ Board Hires Jim Waller As Basketball Coach I he Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Board met in special session Tuesdav. August 8. and tcxik care of several of the vacancies in their teaching and extra-curricular vacancies. Jim Waller, varsity assistant coach at John Adams High School the past three years, was given the head basketball coaching position and will be an English teacher at John Glenn High School for the 1978-79 school year. Waller is a 1951 graduate of Tyner High School and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Notre Dame University in 1955. He has coached the last 22 years in the elementarv, junior high and high school levels. The last eleven scars, coach Waller has been in the South Bend Communits School Ssstem at Muesscl Junior High, Central Junior High. Clav High School and John Adams. His record for 22 sears of coaching at all levels is 245 wins and 153 losses. Jim and his wife, Rose, plan to move to the commumts in the near future. August 28. will be the first full dav of attendance and the first dav for lunches. Wecklv lunches, same as last vear. will cost $2.25 at the Walkerton Elementarv and Urey Middle School, and $2.50 at John Glenn High School. August 18; and Freshmen. August 21.
