Presenting the awards was Mr. Joe Lawecki. athletic director. The Kiwanis award was presented for scholarship, citizenship and athletic ability by Mr. Glen Hall of the South Bend Kiwanis Club to Laurel Smith, tennis; Bob Downs, baseball; Brian Nixon, golf; and Carol Winnicki. girls track. Others recognized were Todd Stull for (he most points in track; Dave Hartsough for the most improved trackman and Phil Smith for his hard work. Ihe most valuable track award went to Jill Knowlton. Ihe baseball and golf most valuable players will be announced at a later date, following the season action. John Glenn Basketball Camp To Be June 5-16 Ihe John Glenn Falcon Basketball Camp for boys and girls presently enrolled in grades 5-8 will run from June sto 16. Ihe camp will meet five days per week in the follow ing manner: Session 1 — 7th and Bth from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon
These Appetite-Rousers Are Fine Picnic Fare II Some spring day when it’s still a bit chilly outdoors, why not plan an indoor picnic featuring “Reuben - Turnovers 9 They’re a tasteful twist on a sandwich favorite The savory corned beef-and cheese filling is rich in protein Sealed in turn overs, it makes a great finger food Serve the turnovers, along with Vienna sausage “Pick Up Sticks for an in house lunch that’s both casual and fun “Reuben” Turnovers 1 can (8 ounces) Libby’s 3 tablespoons thousand Sauerkraut island dressing 1 can (15 1/2 ounces) 2 cans(B ounces each ) Libby’s Corned Beef refrigerated crescent Hash rolls 1 cup (4 ounces)shredded 1 egg. beaten Swiss cheese Poppy or caraway seed 1 tablespoon brown mustard Heat oven to 375°F Drain sauerkraut, squeeze out excess liquid and chop Combine with corned beef hash, Swiss cheese, mustard and dressing Set aside Divide crescent roll dough into rectangles, pinching premarked diagonal lines to seal Cut each rectangle in half, crosswise Gently stretch each half to form a 4 inch square Place about 1/4 cup hash filling on each square, shaping as a triangle. Bring dough over filling, making opposite corners meet Press edges with fork to seal Place on baking sheets, brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with poppy or caraway seed Slit top of each turnover to allow steam to escape Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown Serve warm Yields 16 turnovers. To prepare PICK UP STICKS, drain Libby's Vienna Sausages, then dip in Iwaten egg Roll sausages, coating them evenly in crushed cheese cracker crumbs spiced with a little chili powder Bake on a cookie sheet for 8 to 10 minutes at 375°F Then spear them with toothpicks for easy eating
Session 11 — sth and 6th from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. During the two weeks of camp there will be work on the fundamentals of basketball (shixiting, ball handling, dribbling, passing, pivoting, individual defense, rebounding and individual offensive moves). Also there will be contests with awards, videotape analysis. daily intersquad games, interscholastic games, and an awards day. Participants should bring shoes, sixks. supporter, shorts, and a shirt daily. Shower and dressing room faiclities will be available for those wishing to use them. Ihe cost of the camp will be $5.00 per participant which includes a camp shirt and all awards. Ihe $5.00 must be paid on the first dav the participant enters camp. Remember that you can afford to buy something on credit only if you are current ly spending less each month than you make.
