Hoover, daughter of Joseph E. Scott, route 1. Walkerton, recently was presented the Army Commendation Medal at Fort Bragg. North Carolina. The medal was awarded for meritorious service. Such service can be over an extended period of time or for outstanding achievement in a single situation. In either case, the recipient must have demonstrated skills and dedication far above the average. Hoover received the award while assigned as an assistant personnel actions specialist with the U.S. Army Garrison at the fort. During the same ceremony she
was promoted to her present rank. She entered the Army in April of last year. Ihe private is a 19'5 graduate ol John Glenn High School. Walkerton. Her husband. James F. Hoover, is with her near the fort. San Antonio— Airman Elliott I. (orrcll. son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudnev L. ( orrcll of Route 3. Walkerton. Ind., has been selected for technical training at ( hanute AFB. 111., in the Air Force fuel service field. 1 ne airman recently completed basic training at lackland AFB. Texas, and studied the Air Force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. Completion of this training earned the individual credits towards an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. The airman is a graduate of Oregon-Davis High School. Hamlet. Indiana. As recently as 100 years ago, some people were still using a tin kitchen funnel as a hear ing aid — though it only work ed if you stood right next to it and screamed into it.
