These two teams were the “bye" bracket with the winner moving right into the final game. With upsets being a very common thing, the hope was there that the Green and White could put it all together and maybe pull some surprises of their own. It wasn't to be, how ever, as coach Phil Weybright’s team really looked sharp and readv tor their big chance at a Sectional crown. Ihe loss finished the Shamnxks for the season with their record at 4 10. Ihe Shamrocks were never in the game. Speeds Bruce Grossman opened with a three-point plas after almost a minute and a halt had expired. He shortly after got free for another basket and this was followed bv two free throws bv sophomore Doug Jennings and then came another basket bv Don O'Dell. Ihe Shamrocks got on the board with a driving lav in bv Bruce Griffey down the lane after half the quarter had passed. Dave Reed hit next with a nine foot turn-around shot, but the Dragons came back with two more Jennings free throws, as they were working the baseline real well to draw the foul. Grossman got another lav in to raise the lead to 13 4 before John Gouker hit on the front end of a fast break Don O'Dell was true on two charity pitches and brother Bill put a 13 footer in with :03 left to give the hustling Dragons a 17-b first quarter lead. Grossman started the second stanza also with a medium length baseline jumper. Ihe Shamnxks came back with back-to-back has kets by Reed and Gene Davis to pull within nine. Ihe teams then traded points for a while as Bill O'Dell got a long corner shot to fall but Davis scored from under A technical foul on the Shamnxks for grabbing a ball after it went through the basket on the Davis lay-in gave Jennings one point and then Don O'Dell hit one of two from the line. Reed matched this at the 5:1" mark as action and scoring was moving at a fast pace. However, this is the point Argos really started to pull awav Lead mg 23 14. they got the game's next eight points Jennings hit first, then a three pointer on a corner shot bv Don O’Dell, a basket bv Bill O Dell from the lane area and one of two free throws bv Mike Malone made it 31 14 real last Reed broke the drought with two more one pointers but Don O'Dell and Jennings hit back to b.nk baskets and Ron Price and Prochno traded lay ms in the last 25 seconds to make it Argos 3’, North liberty 18, at the main intermission Argos blew it wide open in the third period They were a run, gun and have fun type of team expand ing their lead to 65-31 bv the end of this period outscoring the Sham rocks 28-13 in this eight minutes

Bv the fourth quarter coach Weybnght had pulled all his regulars and not one starter seen action in the final stanza. Coach Jim Herter, with an eve to the future, used almost exclusively, all sophomores in this quarter, getting the upper classmen out early in the period. He had seven sophomores on his roster, three started and four came up from the B Team that had only lost twice all season long. Regardless of who was on the floor, it was just a matter of placing out the time and setting the final margin by this time. Ihe balanced Argos attack, with 11 of the 12 bovs sharing the scoring, was paced bv Doug Jennings with I", Bruce Grossman with 16 and Don 0 Dell with 14 A I " point effort bv Dave Reed ended this senior's career.
