TVS Runs Over Glenn In Season Finale 89-56 A Tippecanoe Valley team that had been losing like never before in their young history, a loser six times in the last few weeks, put it all together again Friday night and handed the visiting John Glenn Falcons a stinging 89-56 loss in the season finale for the Falcons. In a game that was different in many respects from most, not just a run wild and shoot affair and a ganje with not the usual turnovers and a lot of clock stops along the way, it wasn't as hard to watch even though it became very one sided from the last third of the second quarter on. The loss dropped the Falcons record to 3-16 with the sectional action ahead. The win

boosted the Vikings to 13-6. a team that had defeated Glenn earlier this season in the Triton holiday tourney and had run an unbeaten streak well into January before the bottom fell out. I he more controlled play of both teams, their reluctance to run and simply their efforts to get and take better shots than often is the case, kept the action moving right along. The Vikings controlled the opening tip easily and in the first minute put the ball up six times from in close, getting a raft of offensive rebounds and finally ringing the bell after 57 seconds passed when Jeff Lcckrone put a rebound back up and in. A 9 footer by Craig Ochs tied the score almost a minute later as Glenn also, on their second possession of the game, was more content to get a good shot. TVS came back with two baskets by their most talented 6'6” center, Eric Alspaugh, hit two tip-ins in a row as he and his teammates were controlling both boards in the early going. This lead was never lost, but the Falcons did stay close for most of the first half. Kris Tuttle pegged in a 16 footer over the zone but Rick Shepherd came right back with a 17 footer for the hosts. He then hit one of two free shots on a shooting violation but Ed Beasley hit a medium length baseline shot to keep it at 9-6. A long rebound from the baseline by Lcckrone was followed by back-to-back baskets by Scott Doll on a rebound and Beasley from the same spot as before on the left baseline. The Vikings pulled from this 11-10 lead to 17-10 in a fast 33 seconds as first Alspaugh hit a rebound shot on which he was fouled, he missed the free throw but an offensive rebound was followed quickly by an 18 foot side shot by Leckrone. After getting the ball back quickly. Shepherd was fouled and hit both shots for the six quick points. However. Jeff Stratford and Doll hit in the
final minute to make it 17-14 after one fast and pretty well-played quarter. The Vikes were never seriously threatened, but really didn't start to pull away much until late in the half. Alspaugh hit two free throws to start the second stanza and Shepherd canned another 14 footer over the Falcons zone defense. Stratford got his second basket since entering the game but Tim Conrad and Shepherd both hit un contested shots over the zone from the 15-20 range to up the lead to nine, 25-16. Doll got two free shots to drop and then a very short baseline shot in. After Leckrone canned another medium length jumper, Doll got two more onepointers to keep the lead at five, 27-22. Scoring slowed down for a couple of minutes with Alspaugh and Leckrone hitting for TVS and Stratford for Glenn when things started to break open for the Vikings. Leading 29-22 with just over two and a half minutes left. Alspaugh hit first two free throws and then a rebound basket. Charles Secrist hit two charity pitches and Conrad a 12 footer for eight fast points and als point spread. Mike Drcessen took a nice Tuttle pass for a lay-in moving in from the baseline but after running out the final seconds a 16 footer by Leckrone was in the air when the buzzer sounded and just an instant later in the net to make it 41-26 at the main intermission. The second half was all TVS. After Doll's rebound shot to start the half, a similar basket by Shepherd and then two from under by Alspaugh opened the gap to 19. The Falcons were never closer than 15 again as the steady smooth running Vikings team was comolctely in charge from here on out. They had increased to a 61-41 margin after three and in 1:40 of the final stanza had scored the first eight points of the period to start the rout. Before the five minute mark coach Floyd Hensen had all of his reserves into the game which he hadn't nused much up to this point, but they took over and continued the run-away. The final score of 89-56 was achieved by a 15 point spurt by the TVS subs in the final three minutes. Eric Alspaugh had a superb game in leading the Vikings to victory He totaled 27 points, pulled dowon a raft of rebounds and controlled the game under both boards. He had double figure help from Leckrone, 14; Shepherd, 13; and C. Secrist, with 10 points. In all nine of the 10 players used scored for TVS. Glenn was paced by Scott Doll's 17 points, the onlydouble figure effort for the Falcons. Tippy B-Team Wins Also The TVS reserve team hit a fantastic 30 of 35 free throws to pace a 76-64 victory over the Falcons BTeam. Tippy’s team lists almost all sophomores to back up their senior dominated varsity while Glenn's Bees bowed out of season play still using mostly juniors with half of the varsity seniors for this year's play.
