Doll’s 28 Points Paces Glenn At St. Joe Saturday Victory comes sweet regardless of the situations when a team is having a bad season and Saturday night’s 63-55 victory over St. Joseph High School meant a lot to the boys. The win came over a team that had recorded only one win this season and was playing without two regulars including their leading scorer. Harvey, who was suspended for disciplinary reasons, and also missing was Buchanan. a good leaper, who was scholastidy ineligible. The Falcons advance their record to 3-15 with the win while St. Jex? slipped to 1-16 in their season. The Falcons really dominated the early game as the five St. Joe put on the floor to start the game just didn't do much right. Scoring was not fast but Glenn's selection of shots was very good, nothing being shot from over 15 foot all night as the Falcons were able to move through the Indians defense almost at will, having a lot of success getting the ball to their big man, Scott Doll, for his easy lay-ups. Add to this, the St. Joe team just wasn’t able to put the ball in the basket until the last 10 minutes of the game with the exception of veteran guard Beitler, who had 12 of their first half 20 points but was saddled later in the game with four personal fouls. He opened the scoring with a pair of free throws as he was hammered just after play began to take a 2-0 lead. More than a minute passed before Ed Beasley matched this, getting fouled as he drove for the basket. Beitler then canned an 11 footer for the last lead of the night for the host Indians. Doll tied the score at four with a seven footer and Beasley put the Falcons in front to stay with an eight footer in the lane with the

quarter almost half gone. After Guyton hit one of two free throws Doll got the game's next three baskets over a two minute spell and Beasley tallied a lay-in with half a minute left to give the Falcons a 14-5 first quarter advantage. The Indians broke this eight point streak as Hammer hit a 12 footer to start the second stanza, but Craig Ochs drove the lane pulling up for a nine footer and Doll got another bunny from under to move ahead by 11. After Beitler hit al3 footer, Beasley connected on a three-point play with a six footer on which he was fouled. Burns then hit four straight free throws for the Indians but the Falcons came right back with first a basket by Doll and then he hit two free throws. Beasley canned one from about the free throw line and Doll got another from under. Jeff Stratford popped the ninth and tenth straight points for Glenn with a jumper to make it 31-13 with just over two minutes left in the half. Stratford was called for a charge after his basket and Scott hit one of two chances to break this Falcon streak. Doll answered this point with another lay-in but Beitler found nothing but net from 11 foot. Ochs put a long rebound back up and in but Beitler again rang the bell, this time from 15 foot. Beasley got a solo rebound effort back up and in but Beitler ended the half with his third straight basket, a medium length baseline jumper, making it Falcons 37, Indians 20 at the main intermission. Following the halftime program which had St. Joe’s pompom girls working together much better than their basketball team, the game returned to a similar form for about six minutes. Stratford got Glenn's first four points with Riley sneaking a basket in between. The Indians then ran oft six straight points as Hammer hit two baskets with Beitler getting a pair of one-point ers in the middle. However. Glenn matched this streak in the next 30
seconds with two baskets by Doll and one by Beasley before an almost two minute period of ragged ball passed when neither team scored. With the Falcons leading by 19, this is where the big St. Joseph charge began, thanks to some very poor ball handling by the Falcons and numerous missed free throws by Glenn as well. Beitler, playing with four fouls, hit first, from medium range. Riley was next working free underneath but Mike Drcessen came back with two free throws for Glenn. Riley matched this but Kris Tuttle got his only basket of the night for Glenn before Doll, with half a court to himself, went in for a stuff shot, only to be called for traveling before he dunked the bail. Quite a protest was put up by the St. Joe coach, who trailing bv 17 at this point, seemed to be only blowing steam even though he was right that a technical should have been called on a "dead ball dunk." It looked a little different some five minutes later as the Indians really took advantage of Glenn's mistakes to tighten the old ball game up. Hammer hit first, this basket ending the third quarter with Glenn still well in front 51-36. What happend after this in the first 4:25 of the last period, put a real scare into the faithful Falcon fans who turned out for this game. Riley scored first, just 14 seconds after the last period tip. Then it was Hammer for St. Joe and next Norquist, filings started to close up more when Riley got a three-point play stealing a ball and driving for a lay-in getting clobbered from behind. The momentum was clearly in St. Joe’s favor and their thin crowd was picking up the excitement right along with the team. Riley got another basket, a short baseline shot and when Hammer tallied on another lay-in, suddenly the 17 point lead had dwindled to two, 51-49. Ihe Falcons finally got the ball down floor and inside where Doll broke the 15 point streak with a lay in as 3:35 was left in the game. Almost a minute ran off the clock with a couple changes of possession. before Hammer scored from under again as the Indians now were going through the Falcon defense almost at will. Stratford made a key play in the game at this point as Glenn missed another free throw and the Indians took possession However, the alert senior for Glenn pilferred a pass and drove the entire length of the court on a nice solo effort to up the lead to four again 55-51. Hammer, who really had a hot hand for some eight minutes, tickled the twine from 18 Exit with 1:36 left, but the Falcons came right back with Doll getting another easy one. After a St. Joe turnover. Stratford put a missed Falcon shot back up and in and with just 1:03 left, the Falcons could breath easier with a 59-53 margin. It was all free throws from here one out. Ochs hit one of two, then Doll got two after a pair by Bietler ended the Indians points for the night. Stratford hit one in the dying seconds to set the final margin of 63-55 and win number three for the Falcons. Scott Doll led all scorers with 12 baskets and just four of 11 from the foul line as the big center moved around underneath almost at will. His 28 points was assisted by Ed Beasley's 15, 13 in the first half, and Jeff Stratford s 11 Ihe Falcons shot very prxirlv from the free throw line making only 13 of 27, most ot the misses coming in the second half. Beitler. Hammer and Riley had 18, 16 and 13 respectively to pace the losers. Glenn B-Team Wins Ihe Glenn B-Team racked up their 11th win of the season, holding oft the St. Joe reserves in a tight 43-40 battle.
