Town Board Adopts Energy Crisis Ordinance The Walkerton Town Board met in regular session on Monday, February 20 at 7:00 p.m. with trustees W. T. Elkin. M. Corbett. G. Prentis, J. Rizek and O. C. White present. The reading of the minutes of the last meeting were dispensed with by a motion from White and seconded by Rizek. An ordinance for approving rules and regulations for the curtainment of electric service rendered by the municipal utility of the Town of Walkerton to its various users of electric power was approved and signed on a motion by Corbett and seconded by Rizek and followed bv an unanimous vote. It was mentioned that all persons should cut back 25 per cent on a voluntary basis to ward off the possibility of the Public Service Commission's mandatory curtailment. It was decided that the street lights on Roosevelt Road would be darkened until the energy crisis is over. The use of the Community Building and the Youth Building will be terminated for the next two weeks with no exceptions. These two plans were approved on motion by Elkin and seconded by Corbitt The clerk-treasurer read to the board a letter from the P-L-J Schools inviting the Board to attend an assembly they are having on March 3 when they will be honoring Cliff Ward, chief of police. Melvin Divine presented a building permit to construct a green house and he accompanied the permit with a petition signed by all his neighbors. The Board felt that this should be presented to the Planning Commission. William F. Kinsey, agent for Voluntary Firemen’s Insurance, of Fort Wayne, presented his findings on a policy plan The Board requested sometime to study his plan. Regg Williams supplied an ordinance to establish a Economic Development Commission. The Board turned the ordinance over to town attorney, Devere Goheen, to study in lieu of adopting the ordinance. Because of the recent resignation of Mrs. Jo Hershberger as secre-tary-treasurer of the Hanning Commission, the Board voted to have Mrs. Mary Alice Pavey fill the post which was put into a motion by Rizek and seconded by Corbitt. All the necessary paper work for the aid for disaster snow removal was completed. B. F. Williams asked the Board where he could obtain guide lines for his new sub division it was suggested that he met with the Planning Commission. UREY WILL GO TO COLD LUNCHES THURSDAY Because of the energy crisis Urey Middle School, beginning Thursday. will serve cold lunches. With the recommendation of the State Department of Public Instruction, we will be serving meals that are equally nutritious to our hot lunch es. PAT’S WOMEN’S CLUB TO MEET The St. Patrick's Women’s Club will hold their March meeting on Wednesday, March 1 after the lenten services at St. Patrick’s School Hall. The program entitled, "Hodge Podge in the World of Reading," will be presented by Janet Kochanowski. Story lines and selected readings from several current books, a variety for all ages, including fiction, non fiction, children’s books and a poetry reading. Try to attend and bring a friend. ATTENTION The Oregon-Davis Sunshine Society is hosting a drive for the crippled children at the Northen Indiana Crippled Children's Hospital. If you have any children’s toys and or clothes still in good condition, which you would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. You may leave all items at the Walkerton or Koontz Lake Libraries. Thank you. The Society is also planning a bake sale for Saturday. NLSBOVA Contest Results On Saturday, February 18, students from John Glenn High School and Urey Middle Schixil traveled to South Bend to compete in the 1978 NLSBOVA Solo and Ensemble Contest held at John Adams High School. The PU students did very good at contest this year, earning 26 silver medals (Good) and 16 gold medals (Excellent). Students earning Division 11 (Good) ratings include: Jean Baughman, Jody Carlson and Jackie Hostetler, flute solos; Daniell Sheaks, oboe solo; Thelma Dolph. Damon Knowlton. Kelly Mowrey, Janet Petry, Grant Walmoth, Clarinet solos; Dawn Carlson, tenor saxophone solo; Danny Brantley, Sandy Chapman, Tony Hajicek. Marina Kickbush. Fred Krich. PLJ Schools Set Regulations To Conserve Energy Due to the energy crisis, the fol low ing regulations are now m effei t at all of the Polk-Lincoln-Johnson Schools. All after-school extra cirricular activities will be canceled for this week. The adult education classes at John Glenn High School will not meet and the winter band concert scheduled for Thursday. February 23. has been postponed. Athletic practices and other school organizational gatherings must be concluded by 5:00 p.m each dav This program went into effect Monday. February 20. Sectional Draw Puts Falcons In Opening Game The John Glenn Falcons will plav in the first game of the 19’8 Plv mouth Sectional basketball tournev this vear as they meet the La Ville Lancers in the opening game at (X) p.m. Wednesday, March I Ehey were 52-46 victims of LaVille a couple of weeks ago in a rather lack-luster basketball game Ihe second game Wednesday will pit the host Plymouth Pilgrims and arch-rival, Bremen, in what could be another real dandv These two teams had a really close game early in the season and could really pop some fireworks in their battle. Advancing past the first round in the six-team tournament, is North Liberty and Argos as these two schools will do battle in the opening game Friday night at "’ 00 p.m. Argos was a victor by an 80-6" score over the Shamrocks in their first game after the holidays. Ihe Dragons have since gone on to win the Bi-County tourney and are the small school team given a shot at the title as they have a 16-3 record to date. The two Wednesday night win ners will advance to Friday's second game with the two Friday winners returning to try and gain the right to advance to the Elkhart Regional in the next round of play The IHSAA announced what effects the energy situation would have on the tourney. If no postponments are necessary, it will run as scheduled, but if the case stands in some parts of the state as it is now, the sectionals will be played on schedule wherever possible and if not possible, they will be moved back three weeks.
