Two Chosen For Girls State From Walkerton The Orville Eastcrday Unit 184, American Legion Auxiliary, chose the two Girl State delegates and alternates at their meeting February 9. The Girl Staters have been chosen by the John Glenn High School faculty and the Auxiliary under the direction of Mrs. Mel Auman, Gvl .'state chairman for the Auxiliary. Chosen as a delegate is Tammy Io Whitteberry. I". the daughter of Gene Whitteberry. SOb Georgia Street. Walkerton, and Mrs. Charlene Whitteberry. Rural Route 1. Walkerton. Miss Whitteberrv is active in Pep Club, Sunshine SiKietv and a member of the National Honor Society. She is a Junior Past Worthy Advisor of Walkerton Assembly. Order of the Rainbow for Girls and a member of the Junior American Legion Auxiliarv Tamms is a member of the Walkerton United Methodist Church. wk 11' JhHHL In. She is also active in and a member of the Pep Band, Stage Band, the High School Choir and the Swing Choir. Mary is a member of the National Honor Society, the Sunshine Society, the 4 H Polk Boosters and the Pep Club. After graduation Marv plans to attend I I S B . majoring in music. llMygl . Walkerton Miss Ecker is a member of the Blissville ( hurch of the Brethren where she is president of the Church Youth Group She also is a member of the National Honor Society, High School Band, Pep
Band, and the Art Club. Anita is an active member of the Sunshine Society . Varsity Tennis, Pep Club, 4 H and plays on the B-team volleyball team. She is also a former Girl Scout. Miss Sara Robison is the second alternate and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Robison. Rural Route 3, Walkerton. Sara is lb and a member of Tracy United Methodist ( hurch. She is active in the Sunshine Society and the Pep Club. The 4-H Club has a special interest for her. After graduation, Sara plans to attend Business College. Hoosier Girls State will be June 18-25 at Indiana State University. Terre Haute. The purpose of Girls' State is to educate young women in the duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American Citizenship. Special emphasis is upon the contribution women can make in local, county and state government. Hoosier Girls' State is a schvxil of government and practical politics that is non-partisan and non-political. The American Legion Auxiliary urges the Girl State delegates to return to their respective schools as a senior and conduct a similiar mock campaign to elect officials. IFC High School Music Clinic Scholarship The Woman's Community Club of Walkerton is sponsoring a high school music clinic scholarship county contest on February 2b, at 2:30 p.m. in North Liberty at the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Acil Hunter, art department chair man of the club, has contacted John Glenn with pertinent information and application blanks for this contest. Winners of the county contest will go on to perform at the district contest and the winners there will be awarded the scholarship which pays all expenses for a one-week session of study and performance directed by faculty members of the I. U. School of Music on the campus at Bloomington. Contestant must be a sophomore or junior in high school when participating in the contest and reside in or attend school in the county and or district where the contest is held. Students of private instructors are eligible to enter the contest. Contest categories are vocal and instrumental, no piano or organ entries accepted. No student may win the IFC music clinic scholarship more than once. The district contest will be held March 12. at 2:30 p.m. m the United Methodist Church. North Liberty. At this contest one vocal and one instrumental winner will be selected, and one vocal and one instrumental alternate. Names of these winners will then be sent to the State IFC Performing Arts Chairman. Further information concerning the contest may be obtained from Mrs. Robert Bowman, club president, 586 7281. Urey 7th Grade Ends Season With 6-3 Record The Urey boys seventh grade basketbail team finished their season last Saturday being defeated by LaVillc in the South Central Junior High tourney. Scoring leaders for Urey were Mark Jacobson and Zane Hathaway, both with six points. The team finished the season with six wins and three losses.
