Short-Handed Falcons Fall To Redskins 73-58 I he John Glenn Falcons return ed to action Friday night after more than a two week lavoff and battled problems that started before the teams hx>k the floor that were factors in their 12th loss of the sea son Ihe Falcons did show the effects of the long lavoff and were placing short handed as illness and a death in a familv shortened the ranks even more for coach John McNeil. Ihe final score was Knox "3. Glenn 58. in a game played on the Knox fhxir. Ihc first half was pretty evenly played with Knox holding a slight advantage most of the time, but Glenn staved alive and the Falcons dominated the second quarter to take a slim two point lead into the dressing nxim at halftime. How ever, the second half was all Knox as the Redskins, only a winner four times themselves this season, were paced by a trio of players who controlled the entire ball game. The Redskins scored first, a pair of free throws by Jim Zachary. A lay in by Keith Reinholt followed before Glenn got on the board, first on a six footer by Scott Doll and then with a 13 foot popper by Ed Beasley. Reinholt, one of the higher average scorers of the area, converted a three point play for Knox, but Doll came right back with another lay-in as the two teams had really shot out of the starting blocks as two minutes had not vet passed. Don Carlson, the third offensive weapon of the night for Knox, was next, hitting a swishing one-hander from the right corner but Doll countered again with another lay-in as the teams continued to trade points. Zachary hit one of two charity shots and the Falcons pulled even with the hosts at 10 when Kris Tuttle dropped a nine footer However, in a minute and 12 seconds. Knox took the ball to the basket real well to take a lead they held until the middle of the second quarter. Mike Walters got his only basket of the night to start the quick streak and Zachary , a real jumping jack in the middle, drew another foul for two more free throws. Craig Ochs countered with a lay-in for Glenn on a very nice move to the basket but Carlson hit two baskets in a row . a 19 footer and then a lay-in on the head end of a fast break A free throw in two attempts by Beaslev was followed by another Zachary basket and Knox had gained a seven point lead. Doll countered with a rebound basket but Zachary found range again on a similar effort on the other end of the floor, luttle canned an 11 footer but Zacharv again was Knox's ace in the hole with a medium range baseline shot. Tuttle's third basket of the period ended a fast scoring opening stanza. Knox leading 24-19. The second quarter was a different story The hot hand Knox had faded and the Falcons used (heir size underneath a little better to control plav more around the hoards and take charge of the play. Mike Dreessen. one who just came off the flu bug. started the second period with a rebound lay-in. Reinholt got a close in shot for Knox, but in the next two minutes Glenn ume back with three baskets while holding Knox scoreless to take the lead Ochs was first on a tip-in. then Beaslev on a short turn around shot and Beasley again on a lay-in for a 2"'-2b lead Reinholt got another two to fall, again getting free underneath, but Doll rolled to the basket for a lay-in for Glenn Zachary hit from under in the lane and then pushed the Knox lead to three with another pair of free throws before he drew his third foul and got some bench time Doll got his sixth basket of the

night and Tuttle tied the score with one of two foul shots which let Drcessen’s rebound lay-in just three seconds before the buzzer give Glenn the halftime lead. 34-32 Knox only scored eight points in the quarter after their big 24 point first period and never got a point in the last 3:29 of the half. This was all academic as the second half started. It again was Knox taking charge of the game with domination under the baskets and some high percentage shots falling regularly. Walters hit the half’s first two points, two free throws, but Ochs flipped a short jumper from the side in nicely. Zachary hit a rebound lay-in and was fouled, but missed the potential third point. Beasley put Glenn in front with a 12 foot shot from the lane, but Zachary hit a lay-in and Carlson a long baseline shot to push Knox in front again. Doll tied it at 40. the last time the Falcons were even with Knox as Zachary got six points in a minute's time to take the lead for gixKi. Drew Adams, getting his varsity initiation, hit two free throws, but Carlson came back with a 16 footer and after Dreessen hit from under, Carlson swished another from over the Falcon zone. A lav-in by Doll and two free throws with :02 showing by Reinholt, ended the quarter, but Knox had moved in front to stay, 52-46. The scoring of the last period was slow to start with and slow- for Glenn until very late in the game. Dave Puckett hit first for the Redskins, a turning nine footer that found the net. Beasley countered with a lay-in. but Reinholt swished a medium range baseline shot for Knox. With just 5:09 showing in the game. Doll got another tip to stay but in a two minute period after this. Knox got nine unanswered points to really decide the game. Carlson got the first two baskets, then Reinholt four points before Carlson hit one of two from the line to all but decide the final score. Glenn did nothing more but cut that 1" point lead to 15 by the end of the game as a five and a half minute drought with only the early two baskets was decisive. Knox was led by Zachary with a total of 29 points, including 11 of 12 from the free throw line. Carlson hit 19. mostly from medium to longer range over the Glenn zone and Keith Reinholt had 17 to account for all but eight of the Knox points. Doll's 18 points, all from the field, and Beasley’s P were to only two Falcon totals in double figures. B-Team Wins 46-38 The John Glenn B-Team notched another win as they toppled the Redskins reserves 46-38 in a game they controlled most of the way. Box Score Knox fg ft fta p K.
