Glenn Girls Win Sectional Title For 19th Victory Ihc John Glenn girls basketball team won the La\ille Sectional title Saturday afternoon with a ginxl cf fort and earned a spot in the Saturday Elkhart Regional. The Faicons, coached by Barbara Osowski. combined a good defense plus a real domination over the much shorter Argos girls on the boards to spur the win as the offense at times was not too productive. However, before the contest had ended, they had worn Argos down physically and also took advantage of Argos' foul trouble to win going aw ay Ihe final score was 63-43 as the Glenn girls kept their record clean at 19-0. Ihc scoring started very slow in the game which had a key play happening carls in the battle. After just 3” seconds had passed. Bert Ihompson. the Argos ball-handler and one of their two top scorers, was visibly shaken up as she drove hard for the basket and hit the floor hard being fouled as two Glenn girls hit her in trying to stop the shot. She did stay in long enough to miss her free throws, but at the first dead hall she was taken from the game and even though coming back later, she was definately not feeling well. Ihc situation created by this is that most girls teams do not have an abundance of ball handlers and her absence had to hurt the Argos offense. Meanwhile. the Falcons were having trouble getting started and it took more than four minutes for the game’s first three baskets. Marv Huffstctter was first, hitting a short baseline shot. Barb Mann scored next on a lay-in and the quarter was more than half gone when Julie Rvan hit an eight footer from the side. Argos broke their scoreless period with a 10 footer from the right baseline by Kathy Metzger, but Ryan picked up the game's next two baskets, a seven footer and then a lay-in right down the middle. TWO ENERGY SAVERS

You and Your New Gas Range By having a new gas range in your kitchen (and using it properly) you can cut down your use of gas for cooking... and save money. You can reduce gas consumption 30 per cent on a modern pilotless gas range. Over the lifetime of the range, the energy savings payback could amount to a large part of the original price of the range. It s something to think about!

son. the lone Argos girl as tall as anv of the Glenn starters, hit two free shots with 40 seconds left and Ryan ended the first quarter with her fourth basket to make it 12-4 after the first stanza. The second quarter loosened up the scoring and fouls started to play an important part in the game also. Both Huffstctter and Ryan found some bench after picking up a couple of early fouls. Tammy Tuttle scored first in the second quarter but Argos came right back with a 14 footer by Lisa Arick and then an 11 footer by Bert Thompson, back in action for the Dragons. Huffstctter hit on a fast break lay in and after Bert Thompson hit one of two free throws, Rayn hit a pair for Glenn Sally Thompson hit a short lane shot but Mann came right back with an 11 footer from the lane area as 15 points had been scored in the first 3:07 of this quarter as opposed to 16 for the entire first period. Huffstctter hit two free throws and then Teresa Kemp got a lay-in to stav as the Glenn girls moved to a 24-11 lead. From here on out the two teams traded points, each getting seven more before the half as Glenn maintained the 13 point advantage. 3118. I hc Dragons proved they earned their spot in the finals in the third quarter despite having foul problems with their center. Sally Thompson, w ho had four and eventually fouled out with 1:40 left in the third period. After Ryan hit a rebound shot, Metzger and Sally Thompson scored back-to-back. A 10 foot baseline shot by Ryan was followed by five more Argos points without a return as the scrappy small team was taking the action to Glenn. Kemp hit two free throws to pull 10 ahead again, but the Dragons hung tough and by the end of the quarter were trailing by 41-30, certainly not out of it yet with their scrappiness. Mann, who just played a super game on the boards, hit the last quarter's two first baskets as she first got a rebound shot to fall and then took a nice pass from Kemp for a lay-in. Over two minutes passed before Bert Thompson hit

one of two free throws for Argos and for the next three minutes nothing but free throws were scored by either team, Argos getting four to Glenn's five. The field goal drought didn't end until time was running out on Argos when Ryan hit with just over three minutes left. Argos lost two more girls via the five foul route in the last quarter and with Huffstetter's nine points spearheading the fourth quarter drive, it was all over but the final score. Coach Osowski emptied her bench for the final minute to get all the girls into the game. Mary Huffstetter's 20 points, again including eight free throws, led the Glenn scoring but Ryan was right behind with 18 and Mann had 12 plus a w hole bunch of rebounds. Metzger and Bert Thompson paced the Dragons with 17 and 13 respectively as they bowed out of action with a good 12-5 record, losing to the Glenn girls in the finals of both the Bi-County and Sectional tournies.
