Dr. G. R. Hershberger In Stable Condition Following Heart Attack
Dr. Richard Hershberger, D. 0., Walkerton, suffered a heart attack at his home at 12:11 a.m. on Monday and was taken by ambulance to the Osteopathic Hospital, South Bend. On Tuesday morning he was reported in stable condition, no heart damage and possibly to be moved out of the intensive care unit to a room. He had shoveled snow on Saturday. His office, at 625 Roosevelt Road, will remain open as usual with the office hours from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday. Thursday and Friday; and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Saturday. They are closed on Wednesdays. Girls Sectional At LaVille Has Six Area Teams The 19^8 girls basketball sectional will open at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. February 1. when the host. LaVille, will play Plymouth followed by the John Glenn and North Liberty game at 8.00 p.m On Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., it will he Bremen and Argos followed by the winner of the Plv-mouth-LaVille game and the John Glenn-North Liberty game. The finals will be on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. at LaVille High School. Plymouth is the defending sectional champion and they went all the way to the Fort Wayne semistate last year before being defeated in the tourney. The John Glenn team will enter the competition as the favorite this year with a perfect 16-0 record, including at least one win over ever team in the sectional and a recent Bi-County tourneytitle. Jimtown Game At Glenn Reset For Tuesday One postponed basketball game is on the week end schedule along with three regular scheduled contests for the two local teams this week end. Both John Glenn and North Liberty will be placing twice, once at home and once away North Liberty will be at home of Friday night to host the Oregon Davis Bobcats. B Team action to begin at 7:00 p.m On Saturday they travel to Fairfield to battle the Falcons, action starting at 6:30 The John Glenn Falcons will be seeking win number three at Knox Friday night with B-Team play starting at 700 On Tuesday, February 7. the postponed game with Jimtown of January 2'. will be made up play starting at 6:30. At this game the PIJ Athletic Depart ment's Evansville University Basketball benefit will be held with the Glenn and Jimtown game ball being the prize. Donations are SI.OO for this very worthwhile cause. MEETING POSTPONED The St. Patrick s Women’s Cub meeting for February I has been cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday , January 8 NOTICE The Koontz Lake Firemen's Auxiliary will be meeting at the Lions Building beginning in March.
John Glenn Girls Win Conference With 16th Win The John Glenn Falconcttes, on Tuesday evening, January 24. defeated the Fairfield team bv an overwhelming performance led by Mary Huffstetter’s 20 points for a 77-31 victory. This marked the 16th win for the John glenn girls this season against no losses Also in double figures was Julie Ryan, with 18 points. Kern Gardner with 17 and Barb Mann contributed 10. Leading in the rebound column was Ryan with 13 and she also had nine assists to her credit. Both teams went into the game with identical 4-0 league records. Fairfield is 10-5 overall. Police Chief E. Clifford Ward To Retire After 42 Years
Walkerton police chief, E. Gifford Ward, will retire as of April .30. 1978, after 42 years in law enforcement. Ward. 65, of 802 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, turned in his resignation to the town board on Monday, January 9, having been chief of police since June 1, 1961. He will remain active on the local police force until early March and then will use up his remaining vacation time prior to April 30. Before becoming Walkerton’s police chief. Ward served for 23 years as an Indiana State Trooper and then two and a half years on the St. Joseph County Sherrifs Department. The Walkerton Town Board is expected to fill the chief s position in the near future THANK YOU The North Liberty Business Association would like to thank all those having a part in moving the snow from the downtown business area. 1 Paper Drive Set I For February 25 ‘ In Walkerton The Lincoln Township 4-H Club will be having a paper drive on Saturday, February 25, weather permitting. Tliis paper drive is to help sup port the local 4-H Club rather than having any selling projects during the year. Please help us by saving your newspapers, magazines and catalogs. We will be working from the Community Building and will pick up your papers and magazines. Later we will have phone numbers in the newspaper for you to call for pick-up. UREY TEAMS SPLIT GAMES WITH BREMEN The Urey Middle School's bask etball teams spilt decisions with Bremen on January 24. The seventh grade came out on top bv a 20-1" score to raise their season record to 6-2 The eighth grade was defeated by Bremen 44-36. This dropped their record to 5-4.
