Adult Farmer Ag Meetings At North Liberty A series of five evening meetings have been scheduled for interested area farmers and agribusinessmen at North Liberty High School according to Larry McCollough. Vocational Agriculture Instructor. The meetings will be held on Wednesday evenings, from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. in the Agriculture room of the high school. Following is a schedule of the meetings planned and the businesses being used for resource information: Feb. 1- FARMSHOP PLANS AND LAYOUTS - Burkholder Farm Buildings, Nappanee, Ind. Feb. 8 — TYPES AND USES OF IRRIGATION EQUIPMENT PAN EL DISCUSSION - Specialized Farm Equipment, Plymouth, Ind., Local area irrigation farmers. Feb. IS — GRAIN DRYING SYSTEMS AND SET UPS - Milan Levett, Plymouth, Ind. A discussion of what types of systems will fit into your operation. Feb. 22 - NEW CONCEPTS IN SOIL AND FERTILIZING PRO GRAMS — Trico Ag. Products. A discussion of soil conditioners and foliar sprays in our farming program. March 1— CHEMICAL WEED CONTROL FOR 1978 - BASF Chemicals, Agro-chem Co. A discussion on the chemicals recommended for 1978 plus a look at new types of chemical application equipment on the market this year. These meetings arc open to the public and are free of charge. Polk, Lincoln, Johnson Ambulance Service committee has set the following fees to be charged for non-members: $40.00 base call SI.OO per loaded mile $5.00 for emergency, red light $5.00 for oxygen $5.00 for first aid Memberships can still be purchased at the Walkerton clerktreasurer’s office for $25.00 per family. The phone number for the ambulance is 586-2011. NOTICE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens Cub, Koontz Lake, will meet on Thursday . January 19, at the Koontz Lake Conservation club. With the Starke County Nutrition Center also being at the Conservation club, members who wish to eat there must make a reservation the day prior by calling 586-2376. There is a quota on the meals, so call early for your reservation. They start serving at 1130 a m. and the meeting will follow the meal. NOTICE Ihe Liberty Township 4 H enrollment will be on Tuesday. January 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the North Liberty High School cafeteria.
North Liberty B-Team Reaches Bi-County Finals The North Liberty Shamrocks B-Team earned their way into the Bi-County Tournament finals as they downed LaVille 51-26 Tuesday night on the John Glenn court. They will meet the Marshall County finalist in a 5:15 p.m. game at the LaVille gym Saturday as the first of three Bi-County championships to be decided gets underway. The Shamrocks never trailed and even though the scoring started slow, got their game together in the late first quarter. They moved to an 11-4 first period advantage and had increased this to a very safe 21-6 margin by halftime, holding the Lancers to just two points while getting 10 in the second stanza. Mark Vanderhagen paced coach Glen Keel’s sophomore team as he collected 19 points in this win. He had 10 point support from Ron Price and Randy Moreno chipped in with nine. Dutoi and Dykstra had six points each to pace the Lancers who never had a player with more than two baskets. Richard Bell (D), Patrick Bauer (D), and Richard Doyle (D). area representatives, announced that constituents can call them during the 1978 session of the Indiana General Assembly by using a toll-free number 800-382-9841. This number goes directly into the House of Representatives and anyone with a question or comment should call. "We need to know what the people of the state are thinking, the representatives said. "The tollfree number will allow the people of the various districts and from all parts of the state to express their opinions or ask questions. I hope they will make use of this service. The toll-free number will be open during business hours, from 9:00 a m to 5:00 p.m. Anyone who wishes to write to a state representative during the session should address the letter to the House of Representatives. ENGAGED Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Giese, Route 4. Box 172, Walkerton, announce the engagement of their daughter, Debora Ann, to Michael J. Moorhouse, son of Mrs. Maureen Moorhouse, Route 4, Box 319, Walkerton. The couple plan to be married on August 26, 1978. The bride-elect is a graduate of John Glenn High School and her fiance is a graduate of Oregon - Davis High School. Glenn Girls Win Way Into Final Game Saturday The John Glenn girls basketball team won their way into the BiCounty tourney finals and the right to defend their title Saturday night with a 68-54 win over LaVille. The girls will play the Marshall County winner of Tuesday night’s game between Argos and Bremen, at 6:30 p.m. at LaVille, preceding the varsity finals in the three-game set-up. Mary Huffstetter paced the winning girls team with 20 points, on five baskets and 10 of 12 free throws. Kerri Gardner had 14 points and Julie Ryan 12 for Glenn, both of these girls pulled down eight rebounds as well. Barb Mann led in assists with six, also getting six boards and eight points. All seven of the Glenn girls who saw action shared in the scoring for coach Barb Osowski. Game scoring honors went to LaVille’s Kathy Donathen, with a very strong game ail around and 26 points. Bow man will give an illustrated lecture on their recent trip to Spain to the Walkerton Community Club on Friday, January 20.
PU Adult Ed Classes Still Have Openings This is the first week of classes in the second semester of the adult education program at John Glenn High School. There has been a good pre-registration for credit classes, but there is still room for any interested adult. Any adult wanting to take the class as credit for a high school diploma must register by Monday, January 23. Classes offered for credit or noncredit are: Monday nights — High School Math, Algebra, U. S. History and beginning Accounting. Tuesday nights — Government and conversational Spanish. Thursday nights — English, Art and Music Theory. All classes start at 7:00 p.m. Anyone can obtain more informa tion or register by calling the office at John Glenn High School, 5863195. P-L-J SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The Polk-Lincoln-John son School Board met in regular session Tuesday night at the administration building. A finance committee for the school board was appointed to serve in that capacity for 1978. The president is William Ochs and the secretary Marvin Bouse. Superintendent Harold R Muncie, announced that four parents have accepted to serve on the language arts and foreign language textbook adoption committee. The ones who have accepted are Mrs. Richard Hershberger. Mrs. Wayne Pontius. Mrs. Ronald Putnam and Mrs. Theodore Arnett. The textbook committee will be made up of a building principal, five teachers and the four parents. This committee will recommend to the school board their choice of textbooks to be used for the next five years in the area of language arts and foreign language. The board appointed Ronald Diorio, from Mishawaka, as the girls’ gymnastic coach at John Glenn High School. Conference requests were granted to John Arnett and Gerry Brown to attend a football coaching clinic at North Manchester January 28; Bryce Bigley , a science workshop at Indianapolis February 10 and 11; and Nova Shilt. a social studies workshop at North Manchester February 17, 18 and 19. There will be an SIB.OO charge for students taking driver educa tion at John Glenn High School this summer. The 1978 prom will be held at the Century Center in South Bend on May 12. The next meeting of the school board will be held Tuesday, Feb ruary 7, at 7:00 p.m. in the administration budding.
