Falcons Drop 82-62 Decision To Oregon-Davis 1 he Oregon-Davis Bobcats broke their game with John Glenn wide open in a very dominating second quarter drive Friday night to hand the host Falcons an 82-62 loss. The Bobcats, trailing 19-18 after a well-played first quarter by both teams, completely took things into their own hands as they went over, around and through the John Glenn defense with some sharp passing and well-executed play to bury the Falcons 28-11 in this quarter and never again be challenged by the hosts. The loss was Glenn's ninth in 10 decisions while the visiting Cats moved over the .500 mark, increasing their record to 4-3 for the year. The first quarter found what appeared to be two evenly matched teams. The visitors scored first, just 14 seconds after the tip when Terry Minix hit a lay in. Steve Hardesty, a light-scoring guard, popped in a medium length baseline shot for Glenn to knot the count. O-D came right back with a medium length baseline jumper on an out-of-bounds play by Bob Cunningham, but Tommy Moore flipped a 13 footer from the side in to offset that. A rebound basket by Fred Beerwart was matched by a short jumper by Moore. Two free throws by Matt Lotter was again offset by another Moore basket, this one from the left baseline. The point trading stopped briefly at this point when the Bobcats pulled four in front with back-to-back baskets by Lotter and Minix with just over three minutes left in the period. However, in the space of 50 seconds, the Falcons hit three fast ones of their own with Jeff Stratford, Craig Ochs and Ed Beasley getting the points. Lotter broke this streak with a fast break

lay-in. but Moore hit one of two free shots for Glenn, pushing them in front 15-14. Lotter swished an 11 footer, but Stratford promptly canned a nine footer. Beerwart got a basket on w hich he was fouled with :25 showing, but missed the third point to allow Moore’s fourth basket and ninth point, give the Falcons a 19-18 lead as he drilled a lb footer in before the buzzer. Ihe balance of the game and good play was basically over at this point as the Falcons, who had appeared as ready and disciplined in the first quarter as they had this year, simply fell apart at the consistent and very good play of the Bobcats. Lotter. who was dominating in this game under the baskets, put O-D back on top to stay with two free shots. One of two from the line by Terry Rosander was followed by a short lane shot by Lotter. Beerwart was next with a lay-in and after Minix hit one of two charity pitches, Lotter put a rebound back up and in for a string of 10 straight points without a return and the 14th point for Lotter already in this game as the 6’ junior had really come to play. Moore broke the streak with an eight footer, but Rosander hit two baskets in a row to open an 11 point bulge. After Scott Doll got one of two free throws, Ochs dropped a 10 footer only to have Cunningham come back with two quick baskets of his own. Moore hit again, this time on a lay-in, but Minix and Rosander got lay-ins for the Cats as they were really tearing the Falcon defense to pieces with their passing, sreening and short shots. They upped the lead to 16 by halftime, completing the 28-11 dominance in the second quarter. The second half was almost more of the second quarter. Despite the fact they didn't outscore the Falcans quite as much, they did control the game that much and the free use of the bench found the Bobcats will all reserves in a little
over halfway through the third stanza. From here on out it was just a matter of time and how much, the Cats gaining as much as a 29 point bulge with 3:39 left in the game. Glenn got a lot of free throws, at one point verv late in the match found them shooting seven in two seconds, missing a chance for eight by missing the first of a one-and-one. The good O-D performance was marred a little bit by the loss of temper, an intentional foul, a flagrant technical and ejection from the game of one of their reserves which not only sent Glenn to the free throw line for all those attempts, but also sent Gary LaFollette to the dressing room with a bloodied nose. However, cooler heads prevailed and no further incidents occured as this froze the exodus of the crowd just to sec if further eruptions might occur. Lotter topped all performers with a very fine 29 point effort as he was truly the dominate factor in the game. He had double figure help from Cunningham and Beerwart with 12 and 10 respectively. Glenn had a 26 point effort from Tom Moore and the only other double figure help came from Ochs with 10 points. Glenn’s B-Team Wins Glenn's B-Team, dominated by juniors this past week end due to a freshman tourney, topped the Bobcats B squad in a thriller 48-46. A real close call in the final minute led to the exciting win as the Cats weren’t easily going to accept defeat.
