The Motor Gub advises drivers who don't use their cars on winter week ends to go out and start the auto several times during this per iod. The Gub points out that let ting an automobile stand idle for long periods of time in cold weather can lead to costly repairs. Periodic warming up of the engine keeps the battery charged and the oil in a flowing state so as to reach vital parts the instant the motor turns over. Drivers visiting friends may want to start their cars about 15 minutes before leaving. This way drivers and passengers can get into a warm car without having to wait for the heater to begin operation. The Gub cautions motorists to always warm up a car in a well-ventilated area so as to clim mate the danger of carbon mono’ ide poisoning.
