JGHS Band Travels To All-State On Saturday, October 29, the lohn Glenn High School Marching Falcon Band, will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, to compete in the 1977 Indiana All-State Marching Band Competition. John Glenn will be competing against 15 other Class C Marching Bands from throughout the state in this contest. I'he JG Marching Falcons are one of the six bands entered from the northern part of the state in Class C. Only bands receiving a First Division (Superior) rating at the District (NISBOVA) Contest are eligible to enter the All-State Contest. The top ranked band of the day will be dedarled “1977 Indiana Marching Band Champions Class C." This will be the John Glenn Band's second trip to the Mi-State Contest in the last three years. This Friday night is the last home football game for the Falcons, so if you would like to see the John Glenn Marching Falcons perform their contest show, this will be your last chance . . . unless of course you are one of the many fans that will be traveling to Terre Haute on Saturday with the band. Band director for the Marching Falcons is Mr. Dennis E. Bloomfield. Pom-pon Corps sponsor is Mary Pat Glaub. Drum major is Miss Mary Capek. Pom-pon Corps captain is Miss Alice Conrad, and Flag Corps Captain is Miss Diann Haag. Halloween Party In Walkerton On Sunday, Oct. 30 The Walkerton area Halloween party is set for Sunday, October 30 at 1:30 p.m. sponsored by the Walkerton Jaycees. In the interest of safety the party will be held during the daylight hours. The parade of ghosts and goblins will start at the Walkerton Fire Station led by the John Glenn band. Trick or Treat night will be offically recognized in Walkerton on Sunday from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. this year. Volleyball Sectional The girls volleyball sectional will be held at Plymouth High School on Wednesday, October 26, Thursday, October 27 and Saturday, October 29. Wednesday evening the opener pits North Liberty and LaVille at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Rochester and Triton games. Thursday evening John Glenn meets Plymouth at 6:30 followed by Argos and Bremen. Saturday at 6:30 p.m. the semifinals and finals will be held with the winners of games one and two meeting first, followed by the winners of games three and four. The championship game will follow. Tickets are SI.OO for adults and students at the door. NOTICE The next meeting of the town board of the Town of North Liberty will be held on Wednesday, November 9 instead of November 2.

Deputy Attorney General Zlatos, along with four other deputy attorney generals, was sworn in on Tuesday. October 11, by Indiana Attorney General Theodore L. Sendak (far right). Zlatos, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Zlatos, also of Walkerton. is a graduate of Purdue University and the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis. Deputy Attorney General Zlatos has been assigned to the Environmental Law Section of the Attornev General’s Office. Tri Kappa Sets Plans For Annual Christmas Bazaar The Walkerton Tri Kappas are making final plans for their annual Christmas bazaar, “Kappa Karousel,” which will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, November 11, and from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 12. in the old K of C Building in W'alkerton. All members should turn in their items for the bazaar between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, at the home of Mrs. Alvin Boise, Koontz Lake. North Liberty Trick or Treat Night Monday I'he North Liberty “Trick or Treat Night will be held on Monday, October 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. It is hoped that all will abide with this specified time only. BAKE SALE A bake sale will be held at the Conservation clubhouse at Koontz Lake Saturday morning, October 29. beginning at 9:00 a m. and lasting until sold out. P-L-J SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The Polk-Lincoln-Johnson School Board met in regular session on Tuesday, October 18 in the administration building. It was determined that the board members and superintendent will attend the District Fall Meeting at Fairfield High School on Tuesday, November 1. The superintendent will have the 1978 budget hearing with the State Board of Tax Commissioners on November 22. It was announced by superintendent Muncie that a Title IV B allocation totaling $6,036 has been granted to the corporation for the 1977-78 school year. This money will be used to purchase new equipment for instructional purposes. Eugene Eggleston was appoionted by the board as the varsity golf coach for this coming spring season. Malcom Stauffer, director of guidance, discussed the success of the Career Week at John Glenn High School with the board. Many professional people from the local community devoted their time during the week and students also visited industries within the local area. The board signed 10 supplemental service contracts for the first semester adult education classes at John Glenn High School. Due to the Fall District Meeing previously announced, the next board meeting will be held on Tuesday, November Bat 7 :00 p.m. in the administration building. PLAQUE IS BACK The story of the plaque missing on the Harold C. Urey monument at the park in downtown Walkerton last week, while true as reported by the town employees, turned out to be a misunderstanding. Members of the American Legion, donors of the memorial originally, had removed the plaque to have it cleaned as upkeep was greatly needed. We are happy to report that the plaque is back and very attractive as it has been cleaned and appears in great condition once again. Happy Ads make for happy faces

Pageant Judging Explained To Jr. Miss Contestants The Walkerton Area Junior Miss judging was recently discussed with the contestants by chairman of the pageant. Mr. Jeff Badgley Standards for judging include scholastic achievement, 15 percent, based on careful review of each contestant's high school transcripts of grades and college board exam inations by qualified educators. Mental alertness and judges conference. 35 percent, based on an interview of each contestant by the judges. Here the judges look for a sense of values, clarity of expression. knowledge and perception, personal appearance and ability in human relations. Poise and appearance. 15 percent. this is based on the appear ance of the contestant tn an evening gown. Poise, grace, grooming and good taste, carriage and pos ture are considered Youth fitness, 15 percent, based on coordination, appearance, cor reel posture, carriage and grace in sportswear. Creative and performing arts. 20 percent, based on a three minute talent presentation by each contestant with consideration to originality, technical ability, appropriateness of selection and costume, per formance and presentation. Rehearsals are underway. The pageant is under the sponsorship of the Walkerton Jaycees. For this year’s annual Junior Miss Program, the theme of “Star Wars” has been selected by the choreographers. Mrs. Regg Williams and Miss Diane Gjemre Rehearsals are underway with the 11 girls entered preparing for this Walkerton area pageant. The date of the Jaycees sponsored pageant is Thursday, December 1 and Saturday , December 3 at the John Glenn High School auditorium. The winner of this local pageant moves on the state competition, which will be held in Frankfort, Indiana, later in this school year. Halloween Party At Koontz Lake Monday, Oct. 31 The Koontz Lake Lionettes will sponsor a Halloween costume parts for the children of the community on Monday evening. October 31, Halloween night. The event will be held at the local fire station beginning at 6:30 p.m., central standard time. Prizes for the best costumes in several age groups w ill be given There will be awards, also, for best carved pumpkins. Treats will be given to the young participants. The Lionettes have sponsored the Halloween children's partv for eight years. Lionette Jean Mullet is general chairman of the affair with Evelyn Schmidt as co-chairman FINES AND RENTALS TO BE RAISED AT WALKERTON LIBRARY The Walkerton Library Board at their October 10 meeting agreed to raise fines and rentals to five cents a day. New cards from other townships not participating in taxes are raised to 55.00 per year. Also, they still have two encyclopedias for sale for $25.00 a set.
