Falcons Drop 9-0 Decision In Rain & Mud The John Glenn Falcons dropped their sixth game of the season in seven starts Friday night as they came out on the short end of a 9-0 score in the rain and mud at New Prairie. The game, a Northern State Conference contest, was entirely played in a rain and wind that varied all night, never stopping, but changing in intensity throughout. making strategy and play very difficult. The win was the Cougars first in seven starts and pulls their conference mark to I -1. downwind end. This had a big effect on the first score which came late in the first half as the two teams had been going at each other without much success. On a fourth down with time run ning low . and heading into a strong wind, the Falcons elected to try a pass on fourth down to maintain possession and also use the element of surprise in try ing to break a big play in these conditions However, the swing pass attempted missed its mark and New Prairie had great field position with 1:52 left in the half. Two completed passes, the first for just one yard, but the second for 14 yards and the game’s only touchdown, put the hosts on the board with 1:1b left. Their veteran kicker, and a good one, Tom Clark, booted a true point and the Craig Jones to Ray Barnes pass combined to make it 7-0. I he first half ended this w av and the Falcons again kicked off the second half, taking the weather and conditions over the ball. On a couple of occasions in this game they did get midway into Cougar territory, but were unable to sustain a drive to really threaten. A key factor in the game’s only other score, a safety, came early in the fourtli quarter when the Cougars were forced to punt the ball awav. However, the punt with the wind rolled dead on the Falcon 6 yard line and after a couple of small gains, a motion call shoved the visitors from Glenn back just inside their own five where Damon Flaug-
her attempted to punt out of his own end zone into the wind. It was bkxked as the snap wasn’t real crisp in the mud and the ball rolled out of the field of play w ith an even 10:00 minutes to play, but this was the final scoring of the night. The hosts did threaten right after that as the free kick into the wind was fielded and returned to the Falcon 23. but then a series of fumbles and misplay s followed as the conditions continually worsened.
