Rex. and Mrs. Robert C. Bowman returned last week from a vacation spent in Portugal. Spain and Morrocco. Mrs. George Hillis attended the lO3rd session of the Grand Chapter < t the Order of the Eastern Star of Illinois, which was held at the Medinah Temple, in Chicago, the past week Darren Lee DePoy, son of Jerry I DePoy. is a semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship 23 annual program The 15.000 semifinalists were selected from more than one million students who entered the 1978 merit program. They represent the top one half per cent of the nation's most academically talented young people. Darren Lee attends Garfield Senior High School. Woodbridge. Virginia. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. (Bunny) Williams and the late Delmar A. DePoy. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Eckhoff. of Mesa. Arizona, came last week for a visit with their son and family in Hebron and their daughter and family, in Bremen. While in the territory they called on several friends. On Saturday afternoon they visited with Mrs. Bertha L'rhin with others friends also coming to the L’rbm home to greet the Eckhoffs. They were Mr. Albert Brenner. Miss Dorothea Brenner and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Walz. Dessert and coffee was served. Mrs. Pauline Knowlton, Mrs. Alma Daube. Mrs. Ruth Dreessen, of Hamlet and Mrs. Mildred Williams. of Plymouth spent a week in Wilmington and Raleigh. North Carolina, where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Burgoone Carnes. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kerchaert accompanied by her aunt. Mrs. Mildred Hardman, of Seattle, Washington, spent a week vacationing in the east. They went to Washinton to see the sights and also visited with relatives there and they also were fortunate to tour the White House which they enjoyed along with several side trips. They returned home on Thursday evening of last week. The Wisler reunion was held on Sunday at Stuntz Pine Forest with 69 present coming from Wakarusa, Niles. Elkhart. North Liberty. guest of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Bierly on Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday she stayed with Mrs. Esther Kaufman as her guest. Mr. Leonard Beaty left on Monday evening for California to attend the Wolrd Series baseball game between the Yankees and the Dodgers. Mrs. James Rook, of Chicago and Mrs. Robert Gore, of Crete, Illinois, were here on Friday and accompanied their mother, Mrs. Fayetta Dunn, to South Bend where they and Mrs. Roscoe Dunnuck and Mrs. Robert Kenny all enjoyed dinner together. The annual reunion of the Class of 1936 of Walkerton High School was held on Sunday at the Walkerton Community Building, with a total of 25 present, members and their guests. Those attending included Mr. and Mrs. Albert Huhnke, Jr.. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barden. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Weller. Mr. and Mrs. Linder Schmeltz. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wilson, of Michigan City, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ruggles, of Hamlet, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Stick, of Donaldson, Mr. and Mrs. T. Harper. of New Carlisle. Mr. and Mrs. Pete Dunn, of Goshen, Mr. and Mrs. Gail Whitaker, of Koontz Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Milner Capes and Mrs. Gela Northam. Mr. Bud Hunt was a surgical patient in the LaPorte Hospital last week and expects to return to his home this week. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barden were Wednesday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schmeltz, in Syracuse. They enjoyed eating at Foo and Fay’s. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy, of Chicago, were week end guests of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Brehm. Mr. and Mrs. Don Dipert will serve as hosts for the Koontz Lake Conservation Club Saturday evening dinner for members and their guests. A social hour w ill follow. An adult retreat was held from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon by the Missionary Church w ith approximately 75 present from the local Koontz Lake Church. Dr. and Mrs. William Carter were the leaders and the retreat was held at the Elkhart Missionary Campgrounds. The speaker for the meetings was Joyclyn Clevenger, a missionary to Nigeria. The theme for the retreat was Committment. Everyone felt the meeting was very meaningful and uplifting and they hope to go back again next year. The food was extra good, the weather lousy, but everyone had a good time.

Mrs. Alta Bowers entertained at dinner Monday for six ladies who came to extend their best wishes and congratulations to Mrs. J. C. Milner for her 93rd birthday. A lovely dinner was served at 12:00 mxm and in the afternoon Mrs. Milner opened her gifts which consisted of canned gcxids, jellies, fruits, jello, etc. Mrs. Milner’s birthday will be October 19, but the next few days being busy ones for her and the ladies the party was held early. Best wishes were given for many more happy birthdays. Mr. and Mrs. Agnew Ludwig returned Monday night from a two week trip to Pennsylvania. At Williamsport, they stopped to say hello to the Jake Powell family, and at Vicking Springs. Pa., they visited Mr. Agnew Ludwig’s relatives and many friends. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Kennedy were in Indianapolis over the week end to visit their daughter and family. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Sullivan. Methodist Women To Hold Country Store The United Methodist Women of Walkerton will hold their annual Country Store in the old K of C Building next to Jacob s parking lot in Walkerton on October 13. 14 and 15 from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Baked goods, crafts and an array of miscellaneous items and clothing will be featured. Club To Hold Social Service Meeting Oct. 21 The Woman's Community Club will hold a social service meeting October 21, at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Building. Please bring a sack lunch, scissors and paste. Thanksgiving and Christmas favors will be made under the direction of Elsie Elder. Dessert will be furnished by the hostesses Leona Gordon, Helen Bowman, Evie Ferguson and Laura Shaffer. NOTICE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens Club, Koontz Lake, will meet on Thursday, October 20 at 12:00 noon at the Conservation Gub w ith members bringing a covered dish.
