John Slusher Superintendent Os O-D Schools The Board of School Trustees of the Oregon-Davis School Corporation has announced the appointment of John R. Slusher as the Superintendent of Schools, effective August 10. replacing Ben McKay, present Superintendent, who is retiring from public school work. McKay will remain as a consultant to the schools through September 30th. Mr. Slusher has been with the Oregon-Davis Schools since 1966. He came to the system as the Davis Elmentary School principal and the Oregon-Davis Junior High School principal, and in 1974 was named as the Oregon-Davis High School principal upon the retirement of Cleon Ginn. Prior to joining the Oregon-Davis Schools. Mr. Slusher had served for two years as the High School principal in the Northwestern School Corporation and prior to that had coached and taught for six years in the Delaware County, Indiana, schools. Mr. Slusher is a graduate of the Royerton High School in Delaware County. He received his B.S. degree from Ball State University, Muncie, in 1958 in the fields of business and physical education. He received his M.S. degree, also from Ball State, in 1964 in educational administration. licensing as a superintendent and as a director of guidance. Mr. Slusher is an active member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Indiana Association of Junior and Senior High School Principals, and Phi Beta Kappa, the national education honorary fraternity. He is also a past member of both the state and national Elementary Principals’ Associations. Locally he is a member of the Hamlet Lions Club, he is a past president of the local club and has served as a Zone Chairman for the Lions organization. He is also a member of the Hamlet Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. and Mrs. Slusher and their family maintain their residence in Hamlet. They arc members of the Hamlet United Methodist Church where Mr. Slusher is a member of the board of trustees. Mrs. Slusher is employed as a teacher of business and Latin in the OregonDavis High School. O-D Board Appoints New Varsity Coach Mr. Warren Allen, president of the Board of School Trustees of the Oregon-Davis School Corporation, has announced the appointment of Mr. Daniel Warkentien, of North Judson, as the new junior varsity basketball coach at Oregon-Davis, replacing Mr. Richard Duncan 111, who has been called into service with the Air Force. Mr. Warkentien has previously taught for three years at the North Judson Junior High School and has coached four sports including junior varsity basketball, junior high track, junior high football and varsity cross country. Warkentien, a graduate of Winimac Community High School, also attended Monterey High School. He received his B.A. from Purdue University and is presently pursuing a course of study at Purdue which will lead to a M.A. in educa-

tional administration. In high school Mr. Warkentien lettered in the sports of basketball, cross country and track. Mr. and Mrs. Warkentien will continue their residence in North Judson. Mrs. Warkentien is an elementary teacher and a cheerleader sponsor in the Kankakee Valley Schools. Walkerton Fire Dept. Launches Muscular Dystrophy Campaign 7g The Walkerton Volunteer Fire Department will launch a campaign to raise money for the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon. On Saturday, August 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m., firemen, ladies of the auxiliary and their children will go door-to-door asking for donations. On Saturday, September 3, they will be stationed on street corners in the downtown Walkerton area accepting donations. Please give generously when your fire department representatives call and help them to help Jerry’s kids.
