Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Corbett, 204 E. Center, North Liberty, announce the engagement of their daughter. Cindy to Marvin Frankhauser, of Morenci, Michigan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fankhauser, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The bride-elect attended Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music. Her fiance also attended Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music and is presently working at Ace Drill, in Adrian, Michigan. An October 15 wedding is being planned. SERVICE NOTES Navy Ensign Michael L. Gillies, son of Rose M. Huhnke, of Route 3, box 583, Walkerton, Ind., recently completed the basic Naval Flight Officer Program at the Naval Air Station, Training Squadron Ten, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. He received 26-weeks of extensive instruction in the functions, capabilities and operation of all systems aboard a jet training aircraft. In addition. Gillies studied navigation, meterology, electronics, plus flight operations and procedures. He has now progressed to advanced training, which entails another 16-weeks of instruction and will lead to his designation as a Naval Flight Officer. A 1973 graduate of Indiana State University, with a bachelor of science degree, he joined the Navy in June 1976. Navy Operations Specialist Third Class James Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James L. Sullivan of Route 2, box 183, W'alkerton, Ind., recently participated in Exercise "Readiex 4-77” off the Southern California coast. He is serving as a crewmember aboard the destroyer USS Elliott, homeported in San Diego. He was one of more than 10.000 men who took part in the seven-day exercise, which inluded 25 ships and 100 aircraft. The exercise was part of the continuing training program for Fleet units and was designed to test their readiness and capability to conduct air. surface and antisubmarine operations. Additionally, he and his shipmates visited Rodman, Canal Zone after transiting the Panama Canal enroute to Pascagoula. Miss., for five weeks of shipboard maintenance and repair. HAM STEAK WITH BI RGUNDY SAUCE Total cooking time: 18 minutes. 2 T. butter or margarine 1 T. sliced green onion 2 T. sugar 1 T. cornstarch '» cup burgundy or dry red wine 1 cup (6 oz.) seedless grapes, halved Dash ground ginger Cooked ham slices, 1 inch thick (2 lbs.) In 4-cup glass measure, combine butter and the sliced green onion. Cook, uncovered, at HIGH for 14 minutes till tender. Stir in sugar and cornstarch. Blend in wine. Cook, uncovered, at HIGH 24 to 3 minutes till mixture is thickened and bubbly, stirring 3 or 4 times. Stir in grapes and ginger; set aside. Place ham in 12x7 4x2-inch baking dish. Cook, covered with waxed paper, at MEDIUM HIGH for 7 minutes; turn ham slice over. Pour on grape sauce. Cook, covered with waxed paper, at MEDIUM HIGH. 7 minutes till ham slice is heated through. To serve, place ham on platter; spoon some sauce over Pass remaining sauce. Garnish with pineapple and grapes, if desired. Makes 6 servings

The first Potato Creek Festival will be held in North Liberty on August 12 and 13 with a variety of booths, concessions and contests on the sidewalks, lawns and parking lots planned by the area people. Merchants plan to stay open later on Friday, August 12 with specially priced merchandise in conjunction with the festival. Also there will be an old-fashioned ice cream social, chicken barbecue, baked goods, ice cold watermelon, sandwiches, cotton candy and farm fresh produce on sale downtown. Friday evening three hours of square dancing will be enjoyed with the Dixie Walkers putting on a demonstration with their caller James Chase. This will take place in the 100 block of West Harrison Street. In keeping with the rustic theme of the festival area people as well as visitors are invited to attend the two day event in Western attire and old fashioned clothing. Sun bonnets, gowns and denims will be the order of the day.
