NIPSCO MEETS SECOND JULY ELECTRIC PEAK , Northern Indiana Public Service Company successfully met its second system peak in a nine-day span on Friday, July 15, as tropical-like weather, with temperatures in the high 90’s and stifling humidity, maintained its vice-like grip on the utility's service area. Edmund A. Schroer, NIPSCO president and chief executive officer, said, "Preliminary figures indicate a peak of approximately 2,2100,000 kilowatts was met in the half-hour period between 1:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Friday. The new mark is roughly 25,000 kilowatts more than a preliminary peak set Wednesday, July 6, 1977, and about 135,000 kilowatts higher than the company’s previous confirmed peak set Tuesday, May 24, 1977. "Let me emphasize to all the NIPSCO customers the importance of using energy wisely during unseasonable hot conditions such as those experienced this month and during May," said Schroer. "For economic reasons, as well as energy conservation, we ask that customers reduce electrical consumption as much as possible during these hot, humid conditions — especially between the 'peak' hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. each day.” HARVEST FESTIVAL SET the fourth annual Harvest Festival is set for Thursday, August 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Riverbend Plaza, downtown South Bend, with the rain date on August 5.
