HARTSOCH AND DAWSON RE photos by Michael Pearish The Hartsoch family reunion has been gathering since 1824 and this year the three-day reunion of the Hartsoch and Dawson families gathered on July 2. 3 and 4 at the lovely Stunt/ Pine Forest, Walkerton. with relatives coming from all over the United States in their campers. There was a total of 15 campers representing nine states and 107 in attendance on Sunday for the gathering. With relatives having to travel great distances the reunion is held every five years so they can plan their vacations around reunion time. Those traveling the farthest were Mrs. Clara (Hartsoch) Walsted and her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Freedlander and daughter, of ElCajon. California. Mr. Freed-
lander is employed at Pacific Tile Co. Also traveling quite a ways were Cecil and Vera Laßere and daughter Cindy coming from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and he is a salesman for a large oil company in that area. Others attending were Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Olson, of Kalispell, Montana, and granddaughter, Carol O'Donnell and children, of Baker, Montana, coming in a double unit camper. Mr. Olson is a retired school teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hartsoch, of Tioga, North Dakota, a retired dairy rancher and the brother of Mrs. Mary Gordon, of the RN Nursing Home, Teegarden. The Hartsoch’s son, Arvey and wife, lone, took over the dairy farm and the Hartsoch’s daughter, Marie Vance, is the genealogist for the family. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Hartsoch. near Williston, North Dakota, have a 2,100 acre ranch where they raise beef cattle. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Hartsoch, of Ray, North Dakota, drove to the affair in their new fifth wheel camper. He is also a retired farmer. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young, of Dunlap. Illinois, is employed by the Caterpillar Company. Also attending was the Youngs son. Mr. and Mrs. Mark Young and family, of Brunswich, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Laßere came from Dade City, Florida, where he furnishes housing for migrant workers. Archie is the father of Eva Stickley. one of the hostesses for the reunion. of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, are egg producers keeping from 1,500 to 2.500 hens. His brother, Ben Hartsoch, of Dear River, Minnesota, is a small motor machanic. Arthur and Luan Laßere, of Oak Lawn, Illinois, he is a professional truck driver and Luan is a press photographer. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Laßere and sons, of Chesterton, Indiana, attended. Other relatives from near by attending included Mrs. Florence White and families; Mrs. Esther Anderson and families; Mr. and Mrs, Arthur Barden and families, of Walkerton; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Irvin and family, of New Castle; Francis Laßere and family; Robert Laßere, of Walkerton; Mrs. Clifford (Susan) Laßere, of LaPaz; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Fall, of Bremen; Mrs. Ruth Sult, of Grovertown; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Laßere, of Osecola; Mr. Charles Good and Mr. and Mrs. Eli Burger and daughter, of Walkerton. Coming from the closest distance were Eldon and Wanda Anderson, a total of */j mile. The oldest was Archie Laßere and Florence White and the youngest was little 10-month old daughter of the Thorsons from White Earth, North Dakota. The oldest granddaughter was Mable (Hartsoch) Kenney and the youngest granddaughter was Marie Vance. The reunion was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Stickley, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ruby, all of Walkerton and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Laßere and sons, of Chesterton. Roy Laßere, of Osecola. took family
pictures. On Saturday evening a program by the Sounds Os Joy, of Walkerton. compromised of Sharon Klinedinst. Sherry Klinedinst, Glenn Jacob and Jeanie Jimerson, sang many lovely numbers. Also Marie (Hartsoch) Vance, of Ray, North Dakota, sang, “How Great Thou Art.’’ There were 90 in attendance on Saturday. Everyone had such a wonderful time they decided to not wait the usual five years for the next reunion and so the group will meet now in three years at the Charles Hartsoch’s, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota.
