Memorial Day Parade Monday In Walkerton A Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30 in Walkerton, will be led by the Color Guard of the Walkerton American Legion Post 189. The parade, which will begin at 10:00 a.m., will leave the Urey School parking lot destined for the Memorial area of Woodlawn Cemetery, where services will be conducted by Rev. Edwin Shelly, of the First Baptist Church, Commander William Flaugher, of the American Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary president, Mrs. Robert Wardman. participating in the parade and services will be the John Glenn High School band. Boy Scouts, American Legion Auxiliary Color Guard and any individual, group or organization wishing to pay tribute on this occasion. NLHS Athletes And Cheerleaders To Be Honored The North Liberty High School athletes and cheerleaders will be honored at a carry-in dinner on Tuesday, May 31, in the high school gymnasium beginning at 6:30 p.m. Both boys and girl athletes will be honored. Due to the type of program and the large number of athletes involved, the school requests the limitation of attendance to parents and fans along with students both junior high and high school age. Mr. Phil Eskew, retired Commissioner of the Indiana High School Athletic Association will be the featured speaker for the program. Special athletic awards for the entire year will be presented. The dinner is being sponsored jointly by the Sports Booster Club and the high school athletic department. All players, managers and cheerleaders are especially urged to attend even though parents might not be able to do so. Milk, coffee, tea, rolls and butter will be furnished. All other items are to be on a carry-in basis. It is suggested that chicken, meat loaf or ham be taken if possible. It is requested that at least two covered dishes and your own table service be taken to the banquet. Heading the other committees are Miss Micki Meyer, decorations; Mrs. Jo Tudynski. food placement; Jim Mcßride, table transportation; clean up. Bob Anderson and the co-chairmen are Harry Griftey and Chuck Johnson. Reservations must be turned in by Friday, May 20. to the high school athletic director's office. Mr. Chuck Johnson. HAMLET ALUMNI TO MEET The Hamlet Alumni Association dinner and dance will be held on May 28 at the American legion Post Home. Hamlet. Reservations at $6.00 per person should be mailed to Evelyn Phillips. Route 2. Box 2. Hamlet. Ind. 46532 as soon as possible. A social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing to "J.W. & C 0.,” to follow. Classes to be honored are the 192" and 1952 classes. NOTICE The Walkerton Public Library will be closed all day on Saturday, May 28.
Lions First Annual Fun Day Set For Saturday The Koontz Lake Lions have designated Saturday. May 28, as their first annual Fun Day. Games for all ages are scheduled at the Lions Park according to Lion president, Lorrell Thornburg, who has assumed the chairmanship of this fun day. Activities will begin at 12 noon and cease at 6:00 p.m. All Lions are expected to be present to assist the chairman and his committee. Proceeds will be used to continue and expand the current local Lions projects. Snacks and refreshments will be available. SENIOR CITIZENS TO FINALIZE PLANS FOR TRIP At the next regular meeting of the Walkerton Senior Citizens group a representative of Presley Tour Company will be on hand to describe and answer questions about a proposed three day trip to beautiful Door County and Washington Island in the northern peninsula of Wisconsin. An air conditioned, modern motor coach will pick up the group in Walkerton early on the morning of August 16th and return them here in the evening on August 18th. Only 38 reservations, which must be made two months in advance, will be available and will be on a first come, first served basis. Brochures of the trip will be available that evening at the pot luck dinner at the Community Building in Walkerton at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. June 6. All interested senior citizens are cordially invited to attend. Presley Tours will also show some colorful slides of interesting areas that night. P-L-J SCHOOL BOARD NEWS The P-L-J School Board met in regular session on Tuesday. May 17 in regular session and signed John McNeil, presently administrative assistant and athletic director. as the new varsity basketball coach at John Glenn High School. Steve Cramer, instructor of vocal music at Urey Middle School and John Glenn High School, submitted his resignation to the board effective the end of this present school term. Mr. Cramer will be accepting a position in business. The superintendent announced that the roof repair at the Walkerton Elementary School has been completed. The board approved contracts for the non-certified staff as recommended by the superintendent. The next meeting of the board will be June 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the administration building. GROVERTOWN AND O-D ALUMNI BANQUET SET The Grovertown and OregonDavis Alumni Association annual banquet will be held on Saturday, June 4 with the affair to be held in the Hamlet American Legion beginning at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be followed by dancing from 9:00 to 12:00 midnight with musicprovided by "Quota.” The class of 1957 will be honored. Reservations are $6.25 per person for dinner and dance and $3.00 for the dance, according to Alumni president, G. Edward Cook. Mail reservations and check to Alumni Association, P. O. Box 42. Tennis Clinic In Walkerton Begins May 31 On Tuesday, May 31, a tennis clinic will be held in Walkerton on the local town courts and will meet once weekly for eight weeks. This clinic is for the purpose of giving lessons to boys and girls of junior and senior high age. The clinic begins at 3:00 p.m. and will be conducted by Mr. Frank DeSantis, head tennis coach from Bremen High School, and his staff. The cost of a 1 ‘/j hour lesson is set at $3.00 per person each week. This is nominal since most lessons cost SIO.OO per half hour. Those interested in taking these lessons must attend the initial meeting this next Tuesday at the courts to next to the fire station at 3:00 p.m. N.L.H.S. AND GREENE ALUMNI TO MEET The annual dinner-dance alumni banquet for North Liberty and Greene alumni will be held on June 11 at the Sts. Peter and Paul Serbian Church grounds, located at 59520 Keria, South Bend. The committee of this year's banquet includes Cecil Klopfenstein, Dale Knwpp, Diana Heim and Roberta Kill. You may contact any of them for reservations. The dinner is te begin at 6:30 p.m., dancing at 9:30 to the Bill Henry orchestra. BAKE SALE The Koontz Lake Consersation Club will have a bake and white elephant sale at the club house Saturday morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m. NOTICE The Walkerton License Bureau will be closed Saturday. N. L. Ambulance To Go Into Service June 1 The North Liberty Emergency Medical Service Ambulance will go into effect on Wednesday. June 1. There is a dire need for volunteers to take the 14 week EMT course offered at Ivy Tech, South Bend. The new class will begin in September. Also there is an immediate need for another dispatcher. If you are interested in either becoming an EMT or a dispatcher, contact Phyllis Swihart, 301 E. Center Street, phone 656-8931, North Liberty. Falcon Basketball Camp To Be Held June 6-24 There will be a basketball camp at John Glenn High School for any interested fifth thru eighth grade students in the Polk-Lincoln-John-son School Corporation. The camp will be run from June 6 - 24. Mon day thru Friday. There will be two session each day. Session I — 7th and Bth grades. 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.; Session II — Sth and 6th grades. 10:00 a m. to 12:00 noon. Instruction will be given in all basic fundamentals of basketball, along with contests, videotaping, and games. The cost is $5.00 per camper which includes a tee shirt and all awards. Participants should bring shoes, socks, supporters, shorts and a towel. Information sheets can be picked up at John Glenn High School and must be returned the first day of the camp. The camp will be directed this year by John McNeil, John Glenn varsity basketball coach.
