School, as the new varsity basketball coach replacing Mike Jones, who resigned this spring. McNeil graduated from Wheatfield High School in 1967 where he earned nine varsity letters in football. basketball and track. In 1967, he was voted to the All-C onference. All-Sectional, and All-Regional teams. Following high school graduation, he attended Valparaiso University where he played four years of basketball. During his sophomore and junior year he played for Gene Bartow, who is presently the head basketball coach at UCLA. After graduation from Valparaiso University in 1971. he coached the B-Team at North Newton High School for five years. McNeil will retain his present position as administrative assistant and athletic director at the high school for next year. NORTHERN STATE TRACK CROWN WON BY COUGARS NORTH LIBERTY 4TH The New Prairie Cougars placed in every event except the pole vault and won a close battle with Fairfield for the Northern State Conference track title Monday night at North Liberty. Individual records were frequent as the high jump mark was set by New Prairie's Tom Clark at 6’4"; Bill Rash, of LaVillc, clipped off a nifty :51.3 in the 440; Doug Fraser of New Prairie lowered the time in the two mile to 10:16.5; John Carter of LaVillc cleared 13'4" in the pole vault and the mile relay team of New Prairie set a new mark at 3:35.1 as did the 880 yard relay team of LaVillc with a 1:34.4 clocking.
