Optional Calling Plan Before Commission Citizens in the North Liberty and LaVille High School district may be interested in attending a Public Service Commission meeting on Thursday. April 28, at 9:30 a.m. on the ninth floor of the State Office Building. 100 N. Senate Avenue, Indianapolis, according to State Representative Richard Mangus (R-Lakvcille). According to Mangus the commission will discuss the success of an optional calling plan recently implemented in the Kendallville area, which is similar to a plan requested by many citizens in the southern portion of St. Joseph County. Two different telephone districts split the school district into two sections, putting many students outside the toll-free telephone range for their particular school. Calls to the school, for whatever reason, are charged on the student's long distance telephone bill. The optional calling plan in Kendallville allows area citizens choosing to participate in the program, to literally purchase 60 minutes of long distance calls at a 20 per cent reduction of the original cost. Another program being considered by southern St. Joseph county citizens known as extended area service would place a charge on all phones in the approved area, regardless of the individual's personal use of the system. Mangus said the commissioners meeting will include a discussion of the Kendallville situation which would prove "very useful to citizens of St. Joseph County looking for a new system for their long distance calling rates. "I think it’s important concerned citizens be aware of all available programs." he added. W. O. Seabury’, assistant chief engineer of the Public Service Commission noted interested citizens would be able to petition the commission to consider their situation and need for a new billing program at that time. He asked only that the group select one person to act as spokesperson and sign the necessary petition papers. Urey Home Ec.
