Rev. Curtis Sylvester, pastor of the Dunlap United Methodist Church. Elkhart, will be the guest speaker. Many in Walkerton will remember Curtis and Janet Sylvester when they taught in the public school system. Rev. Sylvester, a native of Bloomington. Indiana, is a graduate of Indiana University and Garrett Theological Seminary. He has served as Associate Pastor at Valparaiso First Church for five years and his present pastorate since June. W 6. A cordial invitation is extended to anyone in the community for the supper and program. Kindergarten Pre-Registration At Oregon-Davis Children in the Oregon Davis School area who will enter Kindergarten in the fall should be preregistered by their parents before April 4. 1977. To pre-register, return the slip or call 867-4714 or 867-2911. Also pre register those children who are eligible for first grade but have not attended kindergarten during the 1976-77 school year. To be eligible for kindergarten, the child must be five years old on or before September 1. 1977 and six years of age on or before September 1 to enter first grade. A legal birth certificate is required for registration. The birth certificate may be obtained by contacting the Health Department in the county in which the child was born. Indiana Law requires all elementary school children to be immunized against diptheria. whooping caugh. tetanus, measles, rubella and poliomyelitis. Each child is required to have a tuberculin skin test prior to attending school for the first time. Health forms will be handed out at the meeting for parents to have completed by their family doctor and dentist. The Oregon Elementary PreSchool Group will meet at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday . April 19. 1977. The regular morning kindergarten class will not meet this day. The Davis Elementary PreSchool Group will meet at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. April 20. 1977. The regular Davis kindergarten class will not meet this day. The Oregon Elementary afternoon class will meet both days. Barnett has accepted a call to the Walkerton First United Presbyterian Church. 512. Georgia Street, and will begin his ministry at the church Sunday, March 20. A resident of Warsaw. Indiana, Barnett graduated from Indiana University in 1969 and received an M.A. in connecting from Ball State University in 1972. From 1969 to 72 he served in the U. S. Air Force Security Service Division and was stationed in England. He will complete a Master of Divinity degree as Louisville, Kentucky Presbyterian Seminary in May. While in seminary Barnett received the Huber Prize for Biblical Studies (1975) and the Bell Prize (1976) for having the highest academic standing in his class. Since 1974 Barnett has served on the staff of the Warsaw. Indiana. Presbyterian Church, serving first as youth minister and more recently as pastoral assistant. He also served as chaplain at Louisville, Kentucky General Hospital. Barnett is married to the former Julie Hogue, a native of Columbus. Ohio, and thev have one daughter, Jill. 6. Unit 189 Auxiliary Hosts Third District Leadership School a

The American Legion Auxiliary of Orville Easterday Unit 189. Walkerton, was host for a Third District Auxiliary Leadership School on Saturday. March 12. The guest speaker was Past Department President. Alice Galka, of Gary. Indiana. Mrs. Galka presently serves the Indiana Department Auxiliary as Leadership Development Chairman and is also serving the 1976-77 year as National Communications Chairman. Mrs. Linda Bridwell. President of the Walkerton Unit, greeted the guests following a coffee brunch at 9:00 am. March. April and May are listed in the Tourism Development Division's "Indiana Spring Calendar of Events.” offered free-of-charge by the Indiana Department of Commerce. Dogwood festivals, maple fairs. May Day celebrations and reenactments of historic events are traditional spring activities highlighted in the Calendar. Following the morning session a luncheon was served by the Walkerton Unit. Mrs. Galka closed the Leadership conference by stressing that "Tomorrow’s leaders will need to invest themselves in the community of which they are a part."
