P-L-J School Board Meets In Regular Session North Central Association State Committee gave John Glenn High School an accredited rating for 1976-77. The superintendent presented a cost of energy report to the board comparing November, December. January ami February of the 1975school vcar with the same months tor 19" f b--"'. The corporation had a IN per cent increase in natural gas usage and a 42 per cent increase in electricity. Conference requests were granted for Kerrs Hacnes and Gerry Brown to attend the Medalist Basketball Coaches Clinic at Grand Rapids. April IS; John Hostrawscr to attend the Purdue Football Clinic. April IS; Jerry Fleischer and Malcolm Stauffer to attend the Student Rights Workshop at Plymouth on March 23. Gerry Brown was appointed Urey Middle School boys track coach for this spring. One free school lunch request was granted. The three building principals gase their annual teacher evaluation report to the board. The next school board meeting will be held Tuesday. Miss Kennelly was presented w ith a certificate of appreciation for her efforts and accomplishments in the field of Special Education and was given a SIOO savings bond. The presentation was made by the president of the M-SARC. Nadine Keiper. The honored guest attended the dinner, held at The Inn at Koontz Lake, with her parents, who were visiting here from Indianapolis. Letters of recommendation were received from co-workers, employees of Washington School and parents of Miss Kennelly’s students. They spoke of the extra time and effort she gives to her students, particularly with the Special Olympics which is due to start shortly; also of the love and understanding she brings to her job. Glenda is a native of Indianapolis. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kennelly of that city. She has taught Special Education for nine years. A plaque was awarded also to Man Gates who teaches at Argos

Elementary School, who had been honored as "Teacher of the Year" in 1976, and who received a great many votes again this year. Other nominees for the honor were Linda Senetar, Caroline Furst, Linda Dahl, Dina Heismman, Kristine Myers, Edith Hastings. Janice Collins. Sharon Beghtel and Ned Overmyer. This was the third such competition for this award by MarshallStarke ARC. The first winner in 1975 was Mrs. Dave (Patt) Weedling. of Plymouth, who teaches in the pre-school department at the Marshall-Starke Development Center. BRUCE DAYHUFF HONORED Bruce Dayhuff, member of the Tri-State University Trojans, 1977 N.A.I.A. state champions, was named to the All N.A.I.A. Basketball Team after the Trojans’ trip to the N.A.I.A. finals at Kansas City, Missouri. The team’s trip rested on the strength of DayhufTs basket with :02 remaining in the state championship game agains Franklin College. Tn-State won 57-56. The 6'2" senior is an accounting major at Tri-State where he plays guard. He started for the Trojans and was third leading scorer with 303 season points (game average 10.0). He made 49 free throws, pulled down 72 rebounds and had 101 assists. He score eight points against Henderson State at Kansas City. Henderson defeated Tri-State b 4-54 in the first round of the N.A.I.A. finals to end the Trojan season with a record breaking 28-5 season. Dayhuff is a 1973 graduate of John Glenn High School. Northern State All Conference Teams Named Monday. March 14, the Northern State Conference basketball team was named with Barry Heim, Ron Haney and Jerry Johnson, all seniors, of John Glenn High School and Tim Davis, also a senior, of North Liberty High School being selected on the ten man squad. Other first team picks were Dennis Rzepka and Andy Mills, of New Prairie; Jeff Kowatch and Jeff Yates, of LaVille; Rod Bend and Robin Luse, from Jimtown; and Randy Burkholder and Brian Snider, of Fairfield. In the girls* basketball all-con-ference selections Julie Ryan. Pam Skiles and Mary Huffstetter were chosen from John Glenn and Karen Mortakis. of North Liberty. Other first team selections included Cindy Keck and Deb Singleton. of New Prairie; Kathy Dona than and Darla Shirley, of LaVille; Jody Showalter and Cindy Gawson. of Fairfield; and Beth Kindig and Kelley Gaugler, of Jimtown. The boys basketball conference title was shared by Fairfield and Glenn while the girls title was shared by Fairfield. LaVille and Glenn. BIRTHS A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Butch Marshall on Saturday, March 19 at the LaPorte Hospital Maternal grandparents arc Mr. and Mrs. James Lee. Walkerton, and the paternal grandfather is Earl Marshall, of North Judson.
