Something unusual took place at Walkerton Elementary* School on Monday. March 14. The John Adams High School Taxidermy Club from South Bend was invited by Mrs. Wesley to present an educational demonstration. This pressentation focused attention on how to preserve birds and mammals in a lifelike status, the process of taxidermy. Students observed procedures of mounting, tanning and skinning as the students explained various techniques involved in the taxidermy process. The club members making the presentation to the 500 Walkerton students were Gary MeCrazcken. president; John Hedge, vice president; Kelly Sweeney, secretary; Gary Forster, treasurer; other members in attendance were Sanders Elliott. John Puchala, Keven Newcomer. Geanne Pietrzal and Michelle Grant. The John Adams Taxidermy Club was organized by Mrs. Wesley’s husband. Roger, a science teacher at John Adams High School in South Bend. The club is the first high school taxidermy club in Northern Indiana Two policies that have been extablished for the club are that a member will never kill an animal and all dead animals are to be frozen 48 hours to prevent any disease or complications of any sort. cause of death is know n an autopsy is performed. Careful records are kept throughout the process. Mrs. Wesley’s efforts to expand the educational horizons of her students and others at Walkerton Elementary were expressed in the student’s excitement, appreciation and enthusiasm. The students thoroughly questioned the club members about taxidermy and studied each specimen with fascination. The science education of the students has been greatly enhanced by the incorporation of this excellent extra-curricular program. RAINBOW NEWS Nancy Peterson. Worthy Advosor. presided at the regular meeting of the Walkerton Assembly. Order of Rainbow for Girls Monday evening. March 14. It was announced that following the April 11 meeting a reception will be held honoring Miss Peterson. who is Grand Representative to Illinois. Friends are welcome to attend the reception to be held on the first floor of the Masonic Temple April 18 the Assembly will be inspected by Mrs. Alfred Drews.

Florence Erickson. will attend a Mother Advisor Luncheon and meeting at Warsaw Sunday. April 15. Rainbow board members are encouraged to attend with the Mother Advisor. The assembly still has candy on hand to be sold, and the money turned in as soon as possible. WALKERTON PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS On Monday evening. March 14. at the Walkerton Public Library meeting. Rev. William Hughes was appointed vice-president. It was also voted to order table and chairs for the children’s department.
