SERVICE NOTES Ft. Knox. Ky (AHTNC) Feb. 4 - Army Private Richard J. Dollahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Barnet, route 5, Walkerton. Ind., on January 28 completed training as an armor crewman under the One Station Unite training (OSUT) Proggram at Ft. Knox. Ky. OSUT is a 13-week period which combines basic combat training with advanced individual training. During the training, students learn the duties of tank crewman, including the firing of the tank's armament and small weapons. They also receive instruction in field radio operations, map reading and tank maintenance and repair. Pvt. Dollahan entered the Army in October 1976. He attended Oregon-Davis High School, Hamlet. Ind., and received his diploma through the General Education Development program. February 4 — Navy Operations Specialist Third Class James B. Sullivan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Sullivan, of route 3. box 183, Walkerton. Ind., is a crewmember aboard the Navy's newest destroyer. The USS Elliot was commissioned January 22 at Pascagoula. M ^99 Sullivan’s ship is of a multi-mis-sion design, capable of operating alone or in support of large carrier task forces. Ihrmarily designed for anti-submarine warfare (ASW), she is armed with two lightweight guns. ASW torpedo tubes and an ASW rocket launcher. Additionally. his ship is capable of carrying a light airborne multi-purpose sensor helicopter for long range weapons delivery. The Elliot is the fifth ship in her class. She is named after Lieutenant Commander Arthur J. Elliot 11, who lost his life in service to his country while commanding U. S. Navy Riverine Forces in Vietnam. Sullivan’s ship is more than 560 feet long, displaces 7,800 tons fully loaded and can cruise at speeds in excess of 30 knots. He joined the Navy in January 1975. FEBRUARY ACTTVITIES AT WALKERTON NURSING HOME The February activities at the Walkerton Nursing Home started out on a snowy Tuesday . February 1 when our faithful friends from North Liberty Church of Christ brought music and devotions. They visited again February 15 at 1:30. February 8 the ladies of the Presbyterian Church brought their beautiful music and devotions to share during the lunch hour. Thursday night February 10. Rev. Tom Jones and congregation visited us. Monday, February 14 at 2:00 p.m. we had a Valentine Party and also celebrated the birthdays of Genevieve Planck, Ethel Hudelmyer. May Richey and Rose Heffner. The Tri Kappa Sorority put the party on for us and the children of Mrs. Gardner's class entertained. Friday, February 18 the Women's Community Gub put on a bingo party for us at 2:00 p.m. Thursday. February 24 the Legion Auxiliary will present a patriotic program for us, under the direction of Mrs. Robert Wardman and Mrs. Ed Klopfenstein. Many organizations remembered us with lovely valentine place mats, nut cups and hand made valentines. We also received a beautiful hycianth plant from Mrs. McGibbeney.
