gas to us some 50 million cubic feet per dax until April I of this year be cause of extreme weather conditions in Texas. Louisiana. Okla homa and other gas producing areas I his together with the demands created bx the extended severe weather in our service area forced us to order industrx to cut their usage to ’plant protection' levels "Our position simply stated is this,” the utility chairman said. "We have used over W) per cent of all the gas we had in storage at the beginning of the heating season and now must relx pnmarilx on dailv flow gas from out pipeline suppliers, plus a minimum from storage, in order to maintain gas supplies to our high priority customers. "I he highest priontx has always been gas for homes, hosptials, nursing homes, sanitation and water faichtics and other essential needs. "Second priority would include schools, churches, retail and other commercial establishments and public buildings, which do not have alternate fuels. "And finally, industrial custom ers who are served under contracts and rate schedules which provide for curtailment during emergency conditions and who in manv instances have alternate fuels. "We regret having to curtail any customers.” Mr. Mitchell empahti-
calls stated, "and do so only as a last resort. "Although the temperatures have moderated and it might seem the emergency is over, that is not the case. Weather forecasts indicate that these temperatures arc only going to last for a few days and that we will again experience much colder weather this week end and that the balance of the winter will continue to be much colder than normal. "Conservation of natural gas supplies in every wav possible is extremely inportant. Thermostat settings in all homes and buildings using natural gas for heating should be kept at the lowest possible settings and certainly no more than 65 degrees during the day and 55 degrees or lower at night. "If we continue to keep our thermostats down and conserve in every way we can during the balance of the winter, we can make it through this emergency without further hardships. "We want to assure all our customers that we arc doing everything possible to secure additonal supplies of natural gas so that we can get industry back on as soon as possible. "Again we want to thank all our customers.” Mr. Mitchell concluded. "for their cooperation and sacrifices during this very trying period." 1977 Flower Show Around The Corner I he 197' spring Flower Show is around the corner, the show is set tor March 2b through April 3 at Mc< ormick Race.
