Woman Learn About Banking At Gub Meeting In the absence of Mrs. Helen Bowman. Mrs. Lucille Dixon presided as president of the Walkerton Woman's Gub when they met on Friday . January 21. Mrs. Peggy B. Carberry, marketing officer and director of special services of the First Bank and Trust Company, of South Bend, spoke to members on the interesting topic of "Women In Banking." She spoke of the unlimited services a bank has to offer its patrons aside from the usual checking and savings accounts. Her bank has trained advisors available and ready to help survivors to understand how to handle financial and other problems in the best way. They also have kits available to new arrivals in the locality which include information about cultural and educational, entertainment, • weather, newspapers. schools, churches, social security, tax information, area information and even a map. A bank is always available for conseling. Today's woman wants to be informed and they appreciated and enjoyed Mrs. Carberry's talk. She was introduced to the group by Miss Dorothea Brenner. In keeping with the discussion about banking. Mrs. Jeanette Guttman brought and displayed several beautiful antique banks. Each place at the table was also marked with clever nut cups portraying a miniature bank front with an open door and a brand new penny overhead. Hostesses who served the delicious salad luncheon were Mary Jane Beaty. Pauline Stanley. Dorothy Walz, Jeanette Guttman and Grace Atwood Mrs. Dorothy Hughes presented an inspiring devotional about this uptight generation and read several quotes from Norman Vincent Peale on how to find serenity in our daily living. Mrs. Laura Shaffer, sister-in-law of Evelyn Ferguson was introduced as a guest. Members are reminded to bring handicraft items to the next meeting on February 4. Send a "Happy Ad" — Just $1.00! The fire alarm rang out early on Thursday morning last week at 7:50 a.m. to the Chuck Nimon residence at 800 Roosevelt Road. Walkerton. Smoke was pouring out of the twostory frame home when firemen arrived.
