Nora Wilson To Present Art Program To Club The Woman’s Community of Walkerton will hold its first meeting of the new year in the tommunity Building January 7. A dessert luncheon w ill be served at 1:00 p.m. Miss Nora Wilson will show slides and give a lecture on sketching and painting. Miss Wilson is a well known northern Indiana artist and has exhibited her work throughout the area ^OBITUARIES CHARUE W. SHAFFER SR. Charlie W. Shaffer Sr.. 72. route 3. Walkerton, passed away at 12:30 am Sunday. January 2 in Memorial Hospital. South Bend, after a bnef illness. He was born on April 2. I^o4. in Hastings. Michigan, and on April 19. 1924, in Chicago, he married the former L-aura Ferguson. who survives. He moved to Walkerton in 1969 coming from Chicago He had been an engineer for Mobil Oil Co.. Chicago. Surviving along with his wife are a son. Charlie W Jr., of Walkerton; four grandchildren; a brother. Carl Lee. of Pontiac. Michigan; and a sister. Mrs. Glen Jolly, of Seminole. Florida. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Nus-baum-Elkin Funeral Home. Walkerton. with Rev. William E. Hughes, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Walkerton, officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery . Knox. GENEVIEVE L. ZANDER Mrs. Genevieve L. Zander. 66. of route 5. Walkerton, died at 1:00 a m. Saturday. January I. in New Castle. Mrs. Zander was born on April 10. 1910. in Michigan C ity and lived at Koontz Lake since 1964. coming from Smith Bend. She formerly worked for Portiss Hat C o. I in Michigan City. She married Harold 0. Zander on January 4. 1938. in Michigan City. He survives along with a son. Wayne, of New Castle; four grandchildren; a brother. Lyman Rieck. St. Peters- । burg. Florida. She was a past worthy matron of OES Chapter 2 and a member of the ladies Auxiliary of the South Bend Shrine Club. FOREST (TOM) LOWRY Funeral services for Forest (Tom) Lowry. 74. of route 4. Walkerton. who passed away at 1:00 p.m. Sunday. January 2, in the Osteopathic Hospital. South Bend, after an extended illness, were at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Nus-baum-Elkin Funeral Home. Walkerton. with Rev. James Gilmer, pastor of the First Brethren Church. Teegarden. officiating. Bunal was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Walkerton. He was bom on April 9. 1902, in Starke County and had lived in the Walkerton area for 40 years coming from Hamlet. On September 23. 1931, he married the former Adaline S. Ballinger, in Knox, who survives. He was a retired farmer. Surviving with his wife are three sons. Don, with the Army in Germany. Dean, of Prescott Valley. Arizona, and Gale, of Plymouth; three daughters. Mrs. John Whitmer. of North Liberty . Mrs. Robert Hoefling, of Jacksonville. Florida, and Miss Ruth Lowry , of Walkerton; 16 grandchildren; five greatgrandchildren; a brother. William, of Walkerton; and three sisters. Mrs. Guy Welsh, of Lakeville. Mrs. Gladys kurzhal. of South Bend, and Mrs. Pearl Knng. of Wabash. LAWRENCE VAN DUSEN Funeral services for Lawrance Van Dusen. 33. of route S. Walkerton. who was killed on Friday at 1:30 a m. in a one-car accident on State Road 23. west of South Bend, were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday. January 3 at the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home. Walkerton, with Rev. Ray Oviatt, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Argos, officiating. Bunal followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Walkerton. The American Legion Post 189 conducted military graveside services.
Van Dusen was born June 17. 1943. at Valparaiso and moved to Walkerton from Niles. Michigan, nine year ago. He was a foreman for the Mastic Corp., South Bend. He married JoAnn Elea on May 20, 1967. in Walkerton. She survives along with three sons. Scott. Larry Paul Jr. and Brian Lee. and a daughter. Lillian Frances, all at home; a stepfather. William Hibbs, of Cave City. Arkansas; two brothers. Leßoy, of Argos, and Raymond. of Arvada. Colorado; and four sisters. Mrs. Steven Kelley, of Galien, Michigan, Mrs. Thomas Wilson, of Little Rock, Arkansas. Mrs. Alfred Garcia, of Batesville. Arkansas, and Miss Pamela Hibbs, of Cave City, Arkansas. The Van Dusen auto left the road, spun into a ditch and then struck a utility pole. He was pronounced dead on arrival at South Bend Memorial Hospital.
