Mrs. Myrtle Mutchler was released from the nursing home in LaPorte and is staying in the home of her daughter. Mrs. David Lawrence. Guests on Thanksgiving Day of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Newell were Mr. Joseph Z. Uhlir. of Oak Park. Illinois and Miss Sally Uhlir. of Chicago and they also spent the week end. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shogrcn spent several days with their family. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shogren and family, Grosse. Ue. Michigan, over Thanksgiving week. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Larson, of Pecatonica, Illinois, were also there. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Teter, of Mishawaka, were supper guests of Mrs. Chester Thayer Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Elder and Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Skinner attended the flower show at Potowatamie Park Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Clell Fouts and Mrs. Dorothy Walsh were Sunday afternoon callers of Mr. and Mrs. Wilder Burnside. Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sheneman and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stoneburner hrough dinner and were guests of their mother, Mrs. Chester Thayer, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Pippcnger spent Sunday evening with Mrs. Thayer. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Divine returned home Sunday from a trip to Coronado. California, to see their new granddaughter, born on Thanksgiving day. She weighed eight and a half pounds and has been named Jennifer Norcne Mr. and Mrs. Hams Grotenstein are the parents. Mrs. Grotenstein is the former Laura Divine. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Greenland, of Las Curves. New Mecixo, and Mrs. Elmer Freeland, of Austin. Texas, left last week for their homes following a short stay here and to attend the funeral services of Mrs. Russell Barnes. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shogren will serve as hosts for the Saturday evening carry-in dinner of the Koontz Lake Conservation Club A social hour will follow the meal Miss Ethel Bierly was m North Judson Sunday as guest of Mrs Gladys Gilfoy. Otto Schmeltz and Mrs. Hazel Flowers were Monday afternoon visitors of Mrs. Chester Thayer. Mr. and Mrs. Warner Clark returned home Sunday last week after spending a week in Florida where in Sarasota they attended a National Silo Association Convention and at Naples they visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kline. Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Kronk were Mr. and Mrs. Roger Kronk and family. Mr. and Mrs. LaMarr Kronk and daughters. Mr. and Mrs. George Henry and Evan. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Limerick and son and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Fair, of Lakeville. This was honoring the birthday of Mrs. George Henry. Door prize w as aw arded to Chana Singleton. Cake and ice cream was enjoved by all WALKERTON TOWN BOARD NEWS The Board of Trustees of the Town of Walkerton met for their regular meeting on Monday. December 6. called to order by William T. Elkin, president, with members 0. C. White. Michael Corbett and Gladys Prentis present. The minutes of the meeting held November 15 were dispensed but the minutes of the special meeting held November 29 were read and approved. Claims 752 through KV were read and approved for pav ment. Bids for the purchase of gasoline by the Town of Walkerton during |9” were opened and read The two bidders were Wells Petroleum Co., all gasoline 56.9 cents per gallon at their station, with adjustment according to changes in their costs. Powers-1 hrom Oil Company bid regular gasoline at 53.9 per gallon and no-lead gasoline at 54 9 per gallon with adjustments
according to changes in their costs. Each bidder guaranteed availability on a 24 hour basis as found necessary. After discussion with the bidders and assurance by the town attorney that the bids were in order, a motion was made by Corbett, seconded by White and carried to accept the bid of the Powers-Throm Oil Company. The contract was such awarded Mrs. Dixie Anspaugh asked for board approval for the operation of a beauty shop in her home. She was told that with the assurance of her neighbors that they would not object to the business, she would be given board approval. A schedule of proposed paid holidays for the town employees was tabled for further study. A schedule of rentals to be applied for use of the Youth Building was prepared. The building is available for rental at any time it is not scheduled for a youth activity . The police department report for November was reviewed. On a motion by Prentis. seconded by White, it was approved. A discussion was held concerning the Notice of Hearing by the St. Joseph County Drainage Board. It was pointed out that the proposed assessment is strictly a county function and has nothing to do with the Town of Walkerton's proposed sew eage plant. Trustees and advisory board members from Polk. Lincoln and Johnson townships were present to give further consideration to a fire protection contract for 19'7. The contract that had been drafted was reviewed with each item being considered separately. it was the con sensus of the involved parties that the Finished contract will be fair for all. On completion of the finished contract, each township trustee and town board member will sign the contract. Ordinance #6-1976. an ordinance for additional appropriations, was considered and given final reading. There was no remonstrances and Corbett moved it be accepted. The motion was earned after a second by White. A resolution. #lO-1976, to transfer appropriations was read. On a motion by White, seconded by Corbett. it was approved. Ordinance #7-1976. an ordinance to establish salaries for Town officials and employees, was read.
